Default Places in London to take out a veggie

Got to take someone to either lunch or dinner this sat.

I know she's asian, likes her usual takeaway curries, chinese, pizza etc, although would be nice to come out with something a bit different, but the veggie aspect has got me stumped.

Central and south london would be good, maybe west, less so east/north. Also can't be anywhere that needs booking.

Would be keen to hear of any suggestions, absolute max £200 for 2 with a few drinks although would prefer to spend less.

I know she likes the bk ones but I think both of these fine establishments are lacking something when it comes to the wine list.

Go Mexican. Always worked well when I was a veggie. There is a good one in Covent Garden but cannot remember the name of it.

I would take her to a decent Lebanese restaurant around Edgware Road, somewhere like Maroush Gardens will serve predictably good food for Veggies, in fact most of their starters are veggie e.g. falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, cheese and spinach sambousek, grilled halloumi etc.. + they have a handful of veggie stews as main courses. However when I go with friends we tend to avoid the mains and just get 3 - 4 starters each to share, waiters continually come around with freshly baked pitta bread so it feels like quite a lavish feast.

Other decent Lebanese restaurants include Al Waha in Bayswater, or my personal favourite Abu Zaad in Shepherd's Bush (on Uxbridge Road). Abu Zaad is actually Syrian owned, but the food is close enough to Lebanese and its one of the most reasonably price restaurants in London. the only point to note is that they do not serve alcohol so you will need to check first if you intend to bring your own.

    Edit
Continuing with the Middle Eastern theme, you could also take her to a Moroccan restaurant. If I were going veggie for the evening I would go for something like a spicy lentil soup followed by a Vegetable tagine, or Vegetable cous cous. A decent one which is part of the Maroush chain is Sidi Maarouf, also on Edgware Road (Marble Arch end)

not dinner, but i took the mrs for high tea at the lanesborough hotel 2 weeks ago - that located at hyde park corner tube. great experiences and loads of food. Came to about £40 pp. Food included finger sandwiches, cakes, scones, tea cakes and loads of tea. You could upgrade to the champagne equivalent if you wanted. Its an alternative to dinner, but should impress!

Im a veggie - let them know before hand and i got a special selection of food just for me!

Mexican is always a good bet - Berty is probably thinking of Cafe Pacifico / La Perla Bar! the food is above average, but its in a great location and the Tequila is really great!

If you can get onto the M20, follow that down to Folkestone. I know it is quite a long way but you could make a day of it. When you get there throw her in the sea then go home and have a steak.

Goucho? You'll get a good feed for £200 and I'm sure there's bread or something for the lady.

If it's Indian Vegitarian you are after jump on the Jubilee line to Kingsbury. There are loads of Veg only places there, all types of Indian, Sri Lankan, Oriental and Middle Eastern food there. Don't have to book for any of them, and its only 20 mins from Oxford Street if you jump the Met Line to Finchley Road or Wembley Park then get the Jubilee line.

I'm not kidding when I say it's a little piece of India in London.

Many thanks for all the suggestions everyone, anyone got any more keep them coming.

I like the idea of mexican food as apparently everything contains cheese - she chucks cheese in everything she eats so that should be a safe bet, although Kingsbury looks like a good option as well, looks like an upmarket Wembley

If you're going to Kingsbury, go to Rose or Jay's. Both pretty decent last times I was there...or you could go to my cousins house! I'm sure they;d cook you something nice.

I've heard good things about Rose and Jays as it happens. "Sheikhan" a bit down the road is also very good so I am told.

Kingsbury is a good bet and Jays is very good. The Regency is also a great Asian pub/restaurant - food is excellent.

Also more central, you've got Drummond St (just behind Euston station), which has loads of Asian Veg restaurants, esp the Ravi Shanker which is very good indeed. This would be better if you wanted to be close to the West End bars etc.
