Unlock samsung galaxy portal

Hi
I have just ordered a samsung galaxy portal with android 2.1 on it.
Its locked to tmobile, I am going to get it unlocked when i receive it.

What I am not sure about is if at a later date i reflash it with 2.2 from somewhere, will it relock the handset back to tmobile?

If yes would the unlock code I use this time also work if i upgrade to 2.2? or is the hansdset unlock permanent & does changing flash images not affect it.

Also can someone recommend a cheap place to get the unlock code from.

Try http://www.htccode.com/ for unlocking, these guys seem to be recommended on the Modacco forums. But I have yet to try them myself.

In terms of flashing and reflashing, I don't know for definate but I 'think' the part of them which stores locking info is held in a particulr chip along with the IMEI. Flashing different roms to the phone goes to a completely seperate part of the phone, otherwise people who choose to flash different roms would have to unlock the phone everytime they flash a new rom. That's just my theory.

In terms of locking it again, why would you want to? The re-sale value of the phone is a slightly higher if its unlocked.

Or do you have concerns about having it unlocked when its under warranty? If thats the case then again I don't 'think' you'd have a problem if you had to unflash your phone and send it back to Samsung. As far as I know the codes are supposed to come from HTC so for all Samsung know you could have paid full whack to get an unlock code from them.

Other members may have had a different experience?
