Default Bought a desire, where do i start?

    hi

bought a desire but won't get my hands on it till next tues as i'm away. so i'm trying to have a read up before it arives.

read some bits here and there mentioning "rooting" and "roms" but not really sure what its all about.

any decent android forums or wikis about that i can have a read up on it all??

also any other tips etc other desire users may have? especially on what case and screen protectors are good?

    cheers

in my opinion, dont bother rooting or anything, you should be able to upgrade to v2.2 of the OS, which should handle the majority of benifits rooting will bring.

While you are waiting for it to arrive, download all the .apk files (apps/games) you want to try out, you can transfer them to the phone using the official software.

Rooting the phone is reasonably safe now the early bugs are fixed and modaco or xda are the best places to go for latest methods and custom roms.

There are benefits to be had with a rooted phone, especially with the custom roms becoming a bit more mature and feature rich now. I get way far more battery life, use things like open vpn and over clock etc
