Where to buy DS flashcards?

We are getting a lot of questions on here related to buying R4s and AceKards etc, which we have to remove as the sale of such cards in now illegal in the UK.
You can freely ask which card to buy, and ask as many questions as you like on how to operate the card once you have it, but please keep any purchasing questions to google.com. Its very easy to find sellers of all cards within a few clicks anyway.

It's a weird one as if you haven't been following things you may not know that this is now illegal in the UK. I didn't know until recently as it wasn't headline news (amazingly).

both my kids DS lites Died at the weekrnd both use edge cards & have for years.they now want DSi consoles.will i need new cards ie(iEDGE ?)or is a flash avalaible for the cards i have.
is there a problem with lates games on the cards or are the card makers doing update f/ware?
finding thems a bitch now.bloody uk laws.

You will need an (i) card for a DSi

your better with m3i zero cards they are always updateable so no need to patch games etc i personally use these

Most cards allow firmware update to match/fix the DSi updates but you'll need a DSi/DS running the old version (so the card works) to update the flashcard firmware.

So basically ensure you update the flashcard firmware first.

It depends what card you have in the first place, all flashcard manufacturers produce an 'i' version which will work on the DS lite and the DSi / XL, if you have the latter you will probably be ok. Older non 'i' cards cant be updated to work on anything other than the DS lite though.

Acekards, CycloDS and a few others are still very well supported and 99% of games will work on them. If you are going to buy a new card, just stick with the major brands, you can probably save a fiver or a tenner getting a R4 clone or some other rubbish but you can guarantee you will have issues at some point.

And what about if the DSi has had it's firmware updated, to say Ver 1.4.1E, are you fucked then?

1.4.2 is out now which does defeat some cards, but most of them have had their update to get round it, others will follow.

Is there a reliable 3DS card out yet?
Even if it will only play normal DS games at the moment. Or have I missed the news that 3d games will also work?

stupid question but does anyone know if 3ds games work on a dsi but without the 3d. I am sure they prob wont but they canbe played without 3d so maybe it is possable.

Nope - 3DS has a faster processor and higher resolution so the games will not work on the older consoles.

all DSi cards that work on the 3DS are as reliable as they are on the DSi, they will only play DS games though and that wont change. The 3DS uses a totally different system and will need new hardware to run roms from SD. Its like putting a DVD in your CD player.
