    Default Anyone ever cooked Ostrich?

    Hey all,

I went to a food festival yesterday and among some other bits and bobs I bought some ostrich fillet steaks.

Just wondering if anyones ever tried it or cooked them before? I'm intending on sealing them in a pan first then slow frying for 5 mins or so, meant to eaten medium-rare or rare.

Just cook em like you would normal fillet steak...from experience they do tend to be a bit more gamey and drier than say scotch beef.

I agree, a bit like steak but because they are pretty much fat free just watch out that it does not dry out..!

i heard you need to cook it for less time than you would a normal steak (less fat content or something)

Treat it like Venison, pan fry or grilling, if you finish it under the grill or in the oven keep it brief.
