Default What to do with spare VM equipment

So I had a VM install booked a couple of months back that I cancelled but they still sent through a box with all the equipment I needed in it. I've tried several times to get them to pick it up and they've failed to each time. The box was supposed to be collected this morning but wasn't, I just phoned them to sort it out, spent half an hour on the phone mostly on hold, then got hung up on.

Bollocks to them... I'll keep it, I'm not wasting any more of my time.

So anyway, I think I have a cable box (with card) and combined modem/router, is there anything useful I could do with them? Could I put the box in a spare room and just stick the card from my active subscription in it when I wanted to use it?

I don't really want to do anything illegal that could backfire on me.

The subscription card will be paired to it's original box mate, so can't see that working in another one. As for the modem/router, you could possibly 'mod' it to get internet etc. but that's illegal.

The only "legal" thing you can do is use it as a freeview receiver.

That would be useful, how would I do that? Without a card the box wont work will it? I'm worried that if I put the card in then it may get linked to my cancelled account and I'll get charged.

Going by the current mess about they've given you mate, I'd be loath to even plug any of it in, in case they haven't actually cancelled your account properly.

If you cancelled the box wont activate m8, try call them up tell them u want to use it for FTA with a view to upgrading package.
the modem hack is getting harder to keep going now m8 and can be alot of messin around.

dont forget the equipment is theirs even if they dont pick it up,and it will show up on your account or any account at that address, so if u sign up in the future they will see you have the equipment registered at that address. they might try bill you for it if its not there.

    Bah humbug.

Oh well, I suppose I'll have to keep trying to get them to collect it.

send them a bill charging them for storage, eg, £5 per day should do it, calculate how long you have had the box at that rate and send them an invoice, i bet they collect it next morning

If you are unsure about plugging the card in then maybe just ring them. They wont charge you for just the freeview channels anyway.

I cancelled my TV package with them as I went over to sky, I asked them to come pick the receiver up and was going to give them the month in advance. The guy on the other end just said to use it as a freeview box, chuck it in another room or even throw it under the stairs. I asked about being charged and he said theres no charge and it saves an engineer coming out to pick it up.

They'll not send anyone round to collect it as it costs more to do that apparantly.
