    Default SKY HD Box Repairs

I am starting to repair Sky HD, Sky + and Standard Sky boxes for a local sky installer.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good wholesaler for Capacitors, as this is mainly what goes wrong with the boxes (capacitors bust/leak).

Any information from others doing this would be good.

    Cheers

    aluminium / ceramic / polyester / polypropylene / polystyrene / tantalum ?

    axial / radial / screw / tag / snapfit / smd ?

    when u say "wholesaler" do you mean 100+ / 500+ / 1000+ ?

These are the capacitors for the Thomson Sky HD box. However I am not exactly sure if the other boxes such as Amstrad, Samsung etc have the same components (they should have because some of these boxes come out of the same factory, with same PCB/Circuit with a different casing):

    C14 - 100µF 400v
    C21 - 10uF 50v
    C20 - 47µF 50v
    C71 - 47µF 50v
    C81 - 47µF 50v
    C33 - 100µF 25v
    C70 - 100µF 50v
    C52 - 470µF 16v
    C42 - 470µF 25v
    C43 - 470µF 25v
    C61 - 470µF 25v
    C80 - 470µF 25v
    C60 - 470µF 35v
    C41 - 1200µF 16v
    C51 - 1200µF 16v

Do you do any of this type of work yourself?
Do you know where I can get decent prices for such components?

My quantities wouldn't quite be at that level yet
    cheers

Invest in a set of these first

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sky-box-Thomso...item2c55f5c230

Check what the ratings are then check out places like RS components etc.

If I'm not mistaken it's the Thomson HD boxes that fail a lot.

Also try Satcure as they do a lot of ready kits.

    Aye i've been on those.

I've bought a kit off ebay there a while ago.

But I kinda thought these types of capacitors would cost around £0.10 each.

The kits are around £10 for 15 capacitors = 66p each

I use RS Components myself, some caps like the 400v 100uf can cost £3.00 from there. Where are people going for their cheap caps?

Been repairing Sky boxes right back to the days of the Amstrad DRX100's

I use Panasonic caps from Farnell. Not the cheapest but superb quality and you'll never get a comeback.
