Default Forgot password on HP Mini - W7 starter

    Hi

my mum has a HP mini netbook with Wndows 7 starter on it, she has forgotten the password to logon but when she clicks on the reset password option it asks for a drive to be inserted, she says she never used a usb drive when she first logged on

it also doesnt have a optical drive to use any disc type method of resetting the password

is anyone aware of a way to reset the password using a usb drive?

    thanks in advance

If you can get a copy of activ@ boot disk. You can run this off a usb stick and it will remove the password.

The unlocked version is available in all the normall places.

Use Konboot. You can make it work from a USB drive as well: http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=s...-boot-from-usb

    Don't be so fucking hostile.
He has been given two solutions so there's no need for you to be coming in with that know-all attitude.
Shit like that really fucks me off and puts people off asking for help.

no worries, i've never really been initimadated by those ruthless uppercase words

@plug1 - i did google it, i found loads of different methods, but nothing specific to my needs, which is why i chose the method of asking on a forum i have used for many years and hence trust the advice and guidance provided, isnt that what this forum is about??

btw - i ended up using the Active Boot Disk, did a remote session on to my mums spare laptop, created the USB boot disk and then talked her through it, ok it took over an hour but she is 70

    thanks once again all
