    Default trying out new lens

    well new to me anyway

    just picked up a canon 300mm F4 L ( second hand ) and took a few shots with it today here are a couple of the results







    i.m pretty pleased with it so far just waiting for some decent weather so i can have a proper go with it

    Nice bokeh exhibited in the first to m8, and the sharpness looks well and good.

    The nuthatch is at a nice angle and the eyes in all 3 have catchlights which helps.

    The ISO's are well controlled by the 50D, even at 320, showing no obvious signs of the start of any noise.

    All in all, you are right to be pleased with the opening gambit.

    That is on my list of purchases and looks like my list is correct from those images. I just can't get it out of my head that there is a 2.8 version.

    cheers for the comments people i'm getting a bit more used to the lens now iv'e found it's not that forgiving but get it right and the results speak for themselves

    here's a couple more now iv'e had a bit of time with it


    coal tit at 420mm ( 300mm + 1.4 teleconverter )


    blue tit at 420mm ( 300mm + 1.4 teleconverter )


    squirrel at 300mm


    jay at 300mm

    Not quite got money to burn but I know someone who has one and will sell it as he has a 400mm 2.8 as well due to an upgrade.

    I think I will have a play at focus on imageing and see. I want to get in to sports so its possibly the way to go at the moment unless I want a 400mm agghhhh
