    Question troubleshooting a 360

I bought a 360 a few years ago for £10, it has 3 red lights but the guy said it only started doing it when he swapped the dvd drive, he was sure it wasn't suffering from 3 Red Lights before he swapped the drive, he seemed to think if the dvd drive stopped reading disks he could just swap them and it worked, i know the keys need to match up etc so this is wrong.

I am thinking this is J taggable and before i start the whole process, does anybody know if the drive being incorrect will cause 3 red lights?

I am guessing i don't need a DVD Drive to j tag it?

1 flashing is a dvd hard drive error, before you start on a long and not always productive process, you will need to know what bootloaders are on the unit, before you spend a load of time, effort and possibly money, get cool shrimps jtag tool, click on the spanner click images then ltp, make one of these simple interfaces shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid, then dump your nand, run it through this program http://www.hb-released.com/download/.../CD%20Info.rar and you'll know if it's worth pursuing

I was asked by a mate to sort out his 360 that had 3 red lights, nothing I tried fixed it, it was left at my house and hadn't heard off him for 3 weeks and as it was pissing the Mrs off having it next to the tv, I rang him to see what he wanted to do with it, "just bin it" he said or use it for spares, so today I thought fuck it then, I stripped it down, wrapped the board in tin foil (4-5 layers, leaving the GPU and CPU exposed) and banged it in the oven at 150 for 5 minutes, turned it down to 100 for 2 minutes, then 50 for 2 minutes, turned the oven off and let it col totally, took it out, put it all back together and hey presto it's now a fully functioning xbox again

Nice one, but I don't think it will Last as the temp wasn't high enough for unleaded solder as it completely melts at about 215-220 degrees

I hope I'm wrong though, good luck

I tested it for 30-45 mins playing black ops earlier on and it ran really quiet the whole time, if it goes again i'll try it again at a higher temp, mate's got another machine so not like he wants it back

Now you have it working do the X clamp fix also, that should help to prolong it's life

Just got hold of a 3RL machine, done the xclamp fix and it's got 6770 on it, so I'm gonna jtag this baby myself (my current jtag was aquired pre-done).

Thanks for the info on the cable, I guess that's my next step
PS. I have a Parallel to USB cable, can these be used?

    Sorry for ther hijack.

yeah that cable should be fine, if you check out the 10 easy step at the top of threads, you need to get the first 3 meg off the nand (to replace later) install xell then xellous then copy the rest of the nand via network it speeds the whole process up makes it 5 mins instead of 45+.
Once you have your back up, you can flash it again via xellous, it also takes the write errors out that can occur on ltp.
