so reading between the lines it could be as low as maybee 2 hours with everything turned on and up...

sold my ds stuff and my Wii already so the cash is sat waiting for the arrival of this little beast.

You'll Get 3-8 Hours Out Of A Nintendo 3DS Battery

As part of its big Nintendo World event being held in Tokyo at the moment, Nintendo has released a chart outlining the final hardware specifications for the 3DS. Most importantly, that includes details on the handheld's battery life.
It takes 3.5 hours for a 3DS battery to fully charge, which is pretty good. As for how fast that battery drains, Nintendo has only provided a select number of figures, all based on the presumption you're using the handheld on a lower screen brightness level.
With the screen's backlighting turned down (but not off), you'll get 3-5 hours of battery life while playing a 3DS game. That number extends to 5-8 hours if you're playing an older DS game on the handheld.
Of course, the more you increase the screen's brightness, the bigger the hit the 3DS' battery life will take. While people will be upset that these numbers seem low for a Nintendo handheld, they're not that far off what you'd expect from a DSi, and considering the 3DS is a much more powerful device, all that extra grunt takes its toll on a battery.
If you're after definitive battery life tests on a unit under all kinds of circumstances, we'll have to wait until people can use one without Nintendo employees standing over their shoulders.

It seems like Nintendo has announced that their Nintendo 3DS battery only lasts averagely 3-5 Hours of 3DS gameplay, and 5-8 DS gameplay with (probably) low brightness. In addition they included Charger dock as seen on their previous Trailer on each pack of 3DS.
UPDATE: these numbers are confirmed to be on the highest brightness setting, with the volume maxed, so the battery life should actually be pretty good.

One of the newly revealed features of the 3DS is the Game Coin, which is earned by walking or for the lazy ones just shaking your 3DS like a ped0meter (or, if you're familiar with it, the Pokéwalker). The Game Coin will be used as some sort of a fake currency for buying special or secret stuff from any 3DS game you play, although no real use of this feature has been announced yet. The rumor goes that the Game Coin system will probably be widely used for many 3rd party games, so just like StreetPass, go and carry your 3DS everywhere.

The Nintendo Support Staff from Japan revealed that the 3DS will be region locked. The 3DS will have region codes which have to match with the region codes in the game. For example: You can't play a Japanese imported version of Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask on a European 3DS.

Can't wait! The coin idea is absolute genius as it will mean people will take their 3ds everywhere. Brilliant marketing by Nintendo.

i am getting excited about it now, after seeing pre order boxes in hmv at the weekend i've been reading up a bit more and its sounding great. For once the demo's actually look better than I was expecting. A lot of the info in this thread can be taken with a pinch of salt though, very little is coming from Nintendo themselves.

Game consoles usually see a post launch software lull. But this won't happen with 3DS. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata told Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper that plans are in place to make sure the 3DS gets a constant stream of software.

Said Iwata, "It's important that you be able to supply software with no pause. With the DS and Wii, following the titles that were released at launch, the momentum dropped when there was a gap in software releases. We're making plans so that this type of thing won't happen."

The 3DS is launching in Japan with eight games: Nintendogs + cats (available in three varieties), Winning Eleven 3DSoccer, Samurai Warriors Chronicle, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Puzzle Bobble 3D, Ridge Racer 3D, Combat of the Dinosaur 3D and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.

We already know of two games that are due out shortly after launch in Japan Sega's Super Monkey Ball 3D will arrive on March 3. Tecmo Koei's Dead or Alive Dimensions will arrive on March 24.

Many of the games we sampled at Nintendo World, including Zelda Ocarina of Time, Steel Diver, Kid Icarus, and Pilot Wings looked pretty far along. With Iwata promising a constant software supply, perhaps we won't have to wait too long for these.

    time to pre-order....

Whilst still waiting for official confirmation from the big N, an eagle eyed gamer has managed to take a snap shot from what looks like some GameStation promotional material. It shows the 3DS launch date as March 1st. A reader of 3DS Buzz has also contacted them to say that both Game and GameStation will be taking £10 pre-order deposits in-store as of tomorrow.

The handheld will launch in Japan on February 26 alongside eight games.

How much is the next big question..

    so have 2 guesses..

1 how much is it going to be.
2 how much is it really worth, whats a realistic price you would like to pay.

i think its going to be £199.

i would like it to come in at £169.

Dunno where that one came from and That POS isnt supposed to be on display as there is no UK release date yet. We all will have to wait for the Announcement on or around the 19th Jan.

HMV sheffield were taking preorders on saturday, but no details of price or release date.

I want one for the gadget fan in me, but being realistic, I cant see me being satisfied by professor layton for very long before the lull sets in again. I got a DS very early on and had Warioware alone for about 8 months, although that did keep me and many curios people entertained for ages, i cant see layton doing the same.

Its a pisser if the rumours of it being region locked are true though, but, roll on a flash card and that will be sorted

if its 190 in japan, then here it will be more like 230, we as a nation always seem to pay more for our consoles.

the DS was roughly the same price though wasnt it? I remember paying 180 for my imported DS with warioware and felt it was justified as I was expecting the machine to cost more when it came out here.

is the fact you can reserve one and yet not be told how much one is a little disturbing...

latest info suggests anywhere from £200 to £300 quid.

likely release date is March 25th..

I would like one of these, but based on the use my GBA and then DS Lite got I couldn't justify spending more than forty quid for it!

But these days I do find the time for small game apps, if those where on the machine it might succeed however Ninty wouldn't follow the Apple/Android model of FREE apps would it?

Also I don't see many parents paying 200+ for a handheld games system that can't be shared by a family all at once.
