Default Collaborating on a site with a stranger?

Hi all, I've got a domain name that I've had kicking around for 11 years now and never had chance to develop. Someone who did some work for me recently has offered to develop it and we share a 50/50 split of any revenue thats made form it.

I'm happy with the above as I haven't got anything to loose.

My slight concern is that he asked me to change the dns to his server so that he could host and develop the site.

Its not that I don't trust the guy but I'm just slightly apprehensive about changing the dns. Should I be?

    Cheers for any help,

    Devs.

You will still own the domain, it would just point to his server. You can change it back.

As Freddy said you'd still own the domain, just make sure it's only the nameservers or DNS you change but keep control of the actual domain yourself. Any fall out then you can just reset everything.

If you keep the password to the domain's cpanel or equivalent you can always change the ns servers back again if it all goes wrong.

Yeah good suggestion mate. As it happens it was a non starter as the guys turned out to be all talk and no action.

Appreciate the comments and I'm sure they will be helpful in the future!

One of my mates had a similar thing, well he wanted his business brought into the modern day and wanted a simple e-commerce site to sell some of his merchandise online. Down payment to some web "developer"..... quite a hefty down-payment at that, 3 months down the line and not a peep from the guy.... friend starts worrying, contacts the "developer" and he says its nearly completed.

Few day''s later, he says the website is completed, He passes his him the completed site and instructions on how to get it on-line. The only credit I can pay the "developer" was that instructions on how to put the website on-line where accurate.

Anyhoo, 3months later and at a cost of £450 my friend was actually sent a copy of OsCommerce and a free template downloaded from somewhere! complete conman!
