    Info TiVo

I got the TiVo email from VM today:

    Dear Mac,

    The countdown is on!

A little while ago, you let us know you were interested in our new TV service, Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo®. We’re delighted you’re as excited about the new service as we are! We’re looking forward to bringing it to you as soon as we can. In fact, that’s why we’re getting in touch.

    Here's the latest...

The new TiVo service will be available to the general public in the next few months. But you won’t have to wait that long to get your hands on it.

At Virgin Media, our customers come first. That’s why we’d like to offer you the chance to order your TiVo service before it goes on sale to the rest of the Great British public which we expect to be in April. What’s more, we’ll make sure you’re first in the queue to have your service installed, with priority installation, just for Virgin Media customers.

If you’re interested, you don’t need to do a thing. We’ll be in touch around the end of March to let you know how you can get the TiVo service before it goes on general sale. For now, you can sit back, relax and wait for all the good stuff to come to you.

    Yours sincerely,

    The Virgin Media team.

    Can't wait!

Big ups to snorty for pointing out that my email was in the post, I did it on my iPad and it was on the bottom out of sight.
I'm looking forward to ditching the V+ for a great PVR!

Yep the biggest downer is forking out £200 but it will be worth it, I've never used anything better than my old TiVo.

I'm having a change of heart here, TiVo software is undoubtedly the best BUT the huge startup fee (considering that the box remains property of VM) is putting me off and the deal breaker is that it is only a twin Tuner, I have had 3 since the earliest TeleWest TV Drive days and don't want to go backwards.

Arse, i did not know that, you have to pay for the box, how can it remain their property...?

Is the £200 a setup fee...?

It seems that to enable 3 tuners VM have to rewrite the software at some future date, I'm not sure I trust them to do that and I definitely do NOT want a 2 tuner PVR.

I can live with 2 tunes i think...!

If my mate can get me onto this friends and family shizzle then there is a discount on the TiVo as well so i hope that it is a good one...

Not sure how it is going to work, is the V+ box going to now become the standard...?

I'm just going to hold off until they sort everything out, TiVo software is the business but VM are too good at screwing things up, I'll wait.

Cheers for pointing me over here Blaggard. Got a bit over excited and started another thread and didn't search heard enough first. I can live with it only being twin tuner I record allsorts and never get chance to watch it so looking forward to having a TB of stuff that I'll probably not get to watch either, but I do like the ability to go back a few days if there's something you've missed, and a decent search and the online features and the idea of it having a dedicated line so it doesn't use your BB's bandwidth. I'll be keeping the remote away from the kids though, I shudder to think how many episodes of Spongebob they could fit on a 1TB drive!

You won't be disappointed in the kit, TiVo rules, I really miss mine, live EPG alone makes it a winner but it's SO much more than that.

PS the tv service never uses your BB bandwidth with cable, not just the TiVo

you still cant migrate your saved stuff to another box or external hard drive, so when the box packs in loosing upto 1tb of stuff would be a bast£rd. vm wont enable the 3rd tuner, they wouldnt enable the usb on the V+ after a huge call to do so from their own engineers as customers were/are goin ape shit when loosing all their content after a box failure.
i do hope they get it right...someday,but its not looking great so far even the tivo unit looks cheap crap.
