Is it worth Updating my firmware

Hi everyone,

My 360 has been sitting there doing nothing for 15 months or so, and i have a 360 elite with a July drive and pretty sure used ixtreme 1.6.

Now the wife wants a kinect, could i just patch the games or would i need to update to the latest version?

You'll need to update the firmware and then your dash to be able to use kinect, download the dash update from xbox.com

Can this be done without any tools as only used the sata port last time

Last time i tried an offline upgrade i had to reinstall the xvid patch so beware.

You should upgrade to LT v1.1 if you want to play Kinect games - and you can do it without tools, but is not recommended. I hope you have your original Drive Key as you will need it. I cant remember if it's readable from iX v1.6. I think it is, but do not quote me.

I'm guessing your already banned, so using the Power from the brick will be fine as long as your not planning on using it on Live. BUT - if your not banned, turning on the XBox without a DVD Drive connected will flag your system for a ban.

I upgraded mine without a CK3, but like I mentioned above, it's not recommended.
All you need to connect your drive is a Sata port and a power source. Which one you decide to use, is up to you!

Someone more clued up may pop their head in to advise you.

Usually, JungleFlasher would be the best place to start. There is an awesome How To Tutorial over on their site that has step by step instructions dependant on your drive model.

I have 2 files in there from around the date that i did this first time.

inquiry.bin

Are any of these the key etc?

nope you need key.bin

Would this do into the jungleflash folder? If so found one called key.bin from again Oct09 (when i did it first time)

Depends if you have done any other XBox's since. If it's still the same install the key.bin does get put into the JungleFlasher folder once it's written.

I was speaking to my mate abd he says because the kinect games are not ap25 I don't need lt+ but can patch the games.

yeah hes right, current ap2.5 games are:

assassins creed brotherhood
fable 3
need for speed hot pursuit
halo reach
modern warfare 2
black ops

thats not to say any future kinect games won't have ap2.5

Ah thanks, but tried a game and all I get is the xbox logo. So this thAt because the dash is not updated or because I patched it wrong?

I'll only use it for some kinect games anyway Abe never online so
I asume can always update the firmware at a later date.

ok just seen your on ixtreme 1.6 - this won't boot games with unknown waves so you will need to update the firmware

Even if I use wave patcher to patch the files? Because I have 1.6?
