erm, what's stopping you?.. m$ don't block updates.. just access to live..? surely worst case scenario, you download the update and apply manually.. [sure there's a thread]

Heard that M$ now sign the divx codec to the console, in which case it would have done be done via live???
Not 100% sure if that is the case tho. I know i did my console offline via DVD's as the console only recently got LIVE access but cant remember how.

I don't bother playing avi files off line, too many times it tells me to log in so I always do.

My friend said that he sorted it by attaching the hard drive to another console and goes online to download it.

wierd cos my xbox as to go live when i want to play avi files ?

I had this problem previously and never resolved it, the console needs to be connected to the net to play divx, avi's etc, as my console was banned this wasn't possible.

I've read you can stream movies to the 360 via your pc with ps3 mediaserver, but never got that to work either.

To get divx on the console without having to be logged in to live you have to download the divx update on two seperate live accounts on the same console a from then on it dosn't have to be connected to play divx for any user. I did mine and this works great for my offline 360

Strange, i play divx e.t.c almost daily.. Its never asked to be connected. In fact it hasnt been connected to the net in over 18 months, it cant in its current location.

To clear up confusion...

To play avi without being connected to live you must have download and applied the codec update using a live account that is present and was created on that box.

If using a recovered tag or GT from another console you will need to sign into live.

During the ban wave season when ever I got a new xbox first thing I done was create a 'media' profile, grab the update and then not worry about being banned.

well mines not banned but wasnt my 360 originally i can play divx's if i sign in but cant if im not , so if i create anther account and sign in and play divx's i can then play um offline ?

It worked with mine and this was recovering accounts I created on the xbox live website on the latest dash update.
