Battlefield 3 trailer shows nearly three minutes of gameplay (video)

Forget that teaser trailer � EA's finally uncorked "episode 1" of its Battlefield 3 trailer and it's right here for your enjoyment (or, depending on your interests, your edification). Highlights include: crazy realistic lighting, an interesting cover mechanic, and the ability to drag downed squadmates to cover. It's not much, but this hype train is just leaving the station and we're a long ways from its fall 2011 destination.

Battlefield Bad Company was piss poor and a hugely disappointing follow up to Battlefield 2 for me, Battlefield Bad Company 2 was a vast improvement on Battlefield Bad Company and I played it quite a bit.

i hope they add back the innovations from Battlefield 2 that made it such a great game (going prone and parachute to any place on the map from helicopters) and I would guess the longest running still played game on the Xbox 360, I do have high hopes for Battlefield Bad Company 3 and if it can improve by the same margin that Battlefield Bad Company 2 did from Battlefield Bad Company 1 then it will be a cracking game.

This looks awesome. Don't know if that's a very polished 360 snippit, or a very high end PC running???? Who cares - its gonna ROCK!!!

I haven;t played any of the Battlefield games for more than half hour, didnt really like em.

But "Oh fuck!" this looks awesome!!!

I hope it's a console version but I have a feeling that will be a PC version running on full details, why release a trailer with any other settings?

Yup the wasd control pop-up just after the guy got sniped gave it away!
Its good to see that this is being developed with the PC as the main version instead of being ported from the console versions.

There's no doubt the PC version of Battlefield 3 will impress, but how is it possible to bring a "next-gen" engine, like Frostbite 2, to the current slate of home consoles? "We're streaming all the data. There's not a single frame where nothing streams. From textures to objects to weapons to sounds and animations ... it scales down pretty well. All of the core systems will use streaming, so it's more of a question of how often you have to stream, and how big are those packages. The engine is built with that taken into account." DICE hopes that the streaming tech will enable the console versions to keep the mood and feel of the original intact. Still, not seeing a working console build did little to quell my doubts.
