Slow Down

My games have been running slower, in spurts, since Friday - as if the processor is being overworked? Has anybody else experienced this and know the cause?

It has been happening on Boxing (off line) which I have been playing without issues for weeks and FIFA 11 which I have been playing without issues (off line) for months?

I have had my XBOX for 3 years, 'not yet' had ring of death. Is my console about to pack up?

try installing the game to the hdd, that will rule out the dvd drive/laser

Also you could try without the hard drive attached to rule out caching slowdown etc.

I install all my games to HDD and play from the HDD?

It could be a cache problem then rIKmAN? I'll try clearing it, thanks.

try and be more specific - i'm assuming the frame rate drops. does the sound stutter aswell? how long does it last?

Could be mate, try it with the hard drive completely off and that wil rule it out alltogether.

Rael is right though, more details needed really, any funny gfx on the screen (lines/dots), is the screen tearing / juddering, does it affect the sound, when it's lagging and you press the guide button, does that lag as well or is that normal speed, do the fans speed up etc

No funny graphics, no screen tearing - just slow motion action on screen for a second or so at a time. No issue with the commentary which carries on as normal and there isn't any speed up afterwards? I have not noticed the fans speeding up?

I also got screen freeze on Lips yesterday on the Song selection menu, it was happening quite often. That's another game I have not had precvious issues with and owned for almost a year?

It's strange as it's been happening since Friday. Prior to that, I have only had similar issues whilst playing online, but those occassions I have chalked off as lag.

Sorry for the lack of detail but I am just a gamer and not a 'techie'.

On your 360 go to console settings. Go to display. Change to widescreen. And change screen resolution to 1280 x 720

Not yet mate but will do when I get home. I have just been told it could be because my HDD is full. I left it downloading several demos on Friday and it's not been the same since - I will clear some space and see if things improve.

my mate had a hard drive that failed that caused problems but he was also getting disc read error when games installed to hard drive.

I'm on the side of the laser starting to fail , allot of the textures are cached to ram as the game is in play .

It's only 8 quid for a new one

As already said copy the game to the hdd and will let you know.

games are installed to hd though? all game data is being read off the hd

It could be fragmented , try ainstall a game to a fresh hdd
