    Default Moving Wordpress Installation

    Hi

Hope someone can advise with the following:

I have a wordpress installation set up on a windows server, I need to move this to a linux server, (all data, database, domain etc).

Can anyone advise what the easiest way to do this would be?

Is it possible for example to set up a temp domain name in the linux server, get everything working correctly, and then move over the original domain name and point it to the same directory and then delete the temp domain name?

I know this can be done in windows through the iis manager to point a domain to a directory.

Any advice/help really appreciated as always.

    Thanks

What I ideally want to do is make sure it is all working fine under a temp domain name before moving the actual domain name over and somehow linking it to that directory, if that makes sense.

If you can't use Google, can you move a website?

Thanks for your help, still not what I was after, I had searched the wordpress forum and google before posting. Will try maybe moving it twice, once to a new domain in new server and again in new server to new domain name. Maybe that will work.

Woe! It is what you need.

You add two lines to wp-config.php that set the new domain and URL, change the DB access settings...that's it!

brumbino what I wanted to do was minimise downtime, I didnt want to be at the stage where I back it all up, then move the domain name so the site is now offline, reinstall from backup and something doesnt work.
If I change the wp-config and bring it in the linux server under a different url, make sure its working under the temp url, then move it again to the actual url in the linux server will that work.
Is there an easy way to move everything within the same server, its linux centos5 and I have root access as well.
