updating FW on a Jailbroken Iphone 4 - Advice Required

Hi guys,

basically have an iphone 4 model which hasnt had FW upgraded since new so its currently on IOS 4.0.1

Im looking to upgrade to latest IOS (jailbreakable), currently I also rely on Ultrasn0w unlock so need to preserve my baseband (on 0.159.00) now after googling for a while ive found that I can use a program called tinyumbrella or something to achieve this (upgrade FW + preserve lower baseband)

Now my question is, is it worth upgrading the FW firslty? are there any significant improvments?

and most importantly will I lose anything on my phone from updating (apps, themes, texts etc)? thats what Im most worried about and I cant seem to find a definative answer, I would like my iphone to stay exactly the way it is except for having FW updated.

any help would be much appreciated.

If it's jailbroken now and Cydia has stored your SHSH blobs then you can downgrade FW again. Only major improvement for me was the addition of 'find my iphone' in 4.2.1 which is very cool and handy. If you upgrade and connect the phone to iTunes it should ask you if you want to setup as a new phone or use a backup, as long as you backed your phone up before the upgrade you can restore all apps and data. Or at least in my experience you can, I don't believe this was possible on older firmware's though.

thanks for the advice guys, will probably leave it for the moment, had a look at new features, nothing that i really need atm
