Games Help with MAME on a Revo

I'm after some help with a mame setup on my Revo. The last time I used Mame it was at work and I used a colleagues mame folder which was already configured. It was a case of running the .exe and everything just worked.

    Here's what I want....

6 bluetooth button joystick ideally with the start button on it.

A fancy front end for mame. Something that has the name of the game and the cover art etc that changes when you flick through the games.

Info regarding what mame to use, where to get roms, any good resources etc. I've downloaded a 5 DVD Mame rom set from NZBMatrix but its not upacked.

    Questions

When I download Mame it comes with a massive list of games, lots of duplicates etc. How do you tidy them up and where do you get all the roms from?

Will it run OK on a Revo R3700? I'm assuming so.

Does anyone have a full configured mame folder with roms that they can upload?

I do have a dropbox with around 4GB of space on it, i'm happy to set it up so it can be used as a DF rom repository to share the most popular roms

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Also just been reading the MsG cab build thread which looks ace

Do you use XBMC as I'm fairly sure there is a Mame front-end available as an add-on within that?

As for the controller I'm not really aware of any 6 button bluetooth wireless controller.

You could use a Wii retro controller (the Datel one doesn't require a tether to the original Wii controller).

Or you could use an Xbox360 controller with one of these http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3299...rlrefer=search

Otherwise it's some home hacking... http://hackaday.com/2010/05/10/makin...es-controller/

Edit: You could also use a PS3 controller I think... http://www.davieslim.com/ps3/use-ps3...ess-bluetooth/

You'll run a lot of the old games on the r3700 fine, you'll start hitting problems with some of the newer (think, '95 onwards) but for the proper old-school stuff the revo will be fine.

Front-end wise, have a look at hyperspin (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/) and MALA (http://malafe.net/) they seem the 2 most popular front-ends for emuls (inc MAME). I use Hyperspin on my cab, but haven't grabbed all the artwork yet. I did see a torrent of 99GB! Which included all ROMs, all videos, sound, and artwork etc. I don't do torrents so I'm just slowly grabbing the artwork I need for stuff in my favourites list.

For up to date rom's, have a look on eBay mate, I bought a 10 DVD pack off there a while ago, and that was far less hassle (esp for people on a crap connection like me) than downloading them all. It came with MALA all installed and configured as well.

Don't suppose you can find the NZB for that? I'm happy to download and test the quality of it first I've already done 640GB this month so another 100 won't make much difference lol

just checked and its not complete and theres no pars, but its only one rar thats a meg or so short and I spose it would only mean a few roms were knackered if you unrarred ignoring errors

anyway, attached the nzb if you want to have a go.

theres also an nzb for this :

    MEATSPiN presents

    Roms.Arcade.Artwork.All.Systems.Frontend.HyperSpin-fe.com.siterip.2009-07-27.Roms-MEATSPiN

    86 x 250MB

This is a complete FTP siterip from 2009-07-27. they only offer this to

donators which is gay like MEATSPiN.

    from: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/
This is complete with pars, but its 600 days old.

is there a way of connecting a wiimote to mame ? I've got that huge arcade stick that I use on mame for iPad and it would be lovely to use it for mame on the revo too. It would need to be in xbmclive or ubuntu linux

That plugin is windows only at the moment which is stupid for a cross platform language like python. The whole idea of a plugin system is that its portable between platforms.
