Default Green mould in spare bedroom

    Hello,

Ever since I have plaster boarded and skimmed the spare bedroom. We are getting a strip of mould at the top of the outside facing wall.

I have no windowsill on at the moment could this be the problem?

Could this be the gutters getting blocked? or is it somekind of damp.

I cant seem to get rid of it.

Hi mate it's definitely some kind of damp and it usually shows as a black mould, the most common cause being lack of ventilation. What happens is that any moisture in the house tends to condense on any cool surface, your outside wall at the top of the house. As far as a blocked gutter, very unlikely, you would have noticed before you plastered and damp coming in from the outside usually shows as 'patches' of damp and subsequent staining.

My advice would be to check that your kitchen and bathroom have adequate ventillation and keep the spare room well ventillated.

    Hope this helps.

If the mould keeps comming back after cleaning with some decent mould cleaner I would then beat out a brick in the wall to open up cavity and put a plastic vent there

you can get one from B & Q for a few quid

    Easy to do

Other than that get a dehumidfier to suck the moisture out of the air,But its not 100% to cure your problem
