I'm not sure the "homebrew" community is as big as you think it is? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't decide whether its a success or not. Unless the ability to run the old fashioned or indie stuff was simplistic to run i think you'd find a lot of people wouldn't bother. A lot of people still rent or download their movies legitimately too so the Revo playback bit it again only something that will interest about 25% of people imo. I can't see them changing much with this new console, as the wii almost outsold the other 2 put together. All I expect is that it will be 1080p as the pics show and that it will have those horrible looking controllers with what looks like a modern day version of a VMU in it, which apart from being a memory were otherwise absolutely pointless on the Dreamcast. It looks like a cross between the DS and wii to me. Not interested at all as of yet. They have a lot of work to do to win me back.

Not saying that homebrew is big but the people that do all thehacking these days claim to only be after the ability to run homebrew but ultimately their work is used for piracy.

I dont think comparisons to the VMU are fair, the VMU was only ever used by a couple of games to display stats durung game, in the case of project cafe, its an integral part of the controller interface as much as the touch screen on a DS is.

I think the basic premise of project cafe is sort of a high powered wii using stripped down DS's as controllers. If you have ever played Zelda 4 swords on the cube, where 4 players each have a screen (using a GBA each) you can see there is some potential for interesting and unique gameplay which this would be able to do and more. I'm just not sure if thats enough to captivate the same amount of the market as the wii did. Its supposedly got motion sensing superior to move, which doesnt seem possible with the set up shown in the leaked images, so I dont think we have seen everything just yet. Roll on E3

the 4 swords idea is a nice one, but with the 4 gbas at least the players got to take them home... who's going to fork out 3x however much those pads will cost just to play with their mates?

even if they cost £90-£100 each which is what i'd expect. £300 to play games with your mates when you can play online for peanuts?

the controllers shouldn't cost 100 quid, its basically a DS, minus the top screen and the cpu/gpu etc, plus accelerometers.

In fact, wouldn't a 3DS do exactly the same thing? Seems logical if it did and in my case, me and my friends wouldn't have to buy any extra controllers at all

From what I read and see it sounds a bit like a motion sensitive sixaxis controller which retail at £35 or so, stick a 6" touch screen and a camera into it and you wouldn't get much change from £100 I would expect.

Its all speculation at the mo but it could well be an expensive do for anyone that likes party play.

Ooooops, sorry! I thought I was back in the past for a moment there

I can safely say that unless I win one in a competition, I will not be purchasing one of these.
The other half bought me a Kinect for me birthday that has been used twice, despite me telling her not to bother...

Really depends, you can get a replacement lcd and touch screen from ebay for a few quid.
So I expect they cost Nintendo much less in quantity, so we might see these controllers at similar levels to current ones, £35-40ish.

    All theory but makes sense.

Would be fantastic if someone could finally come up with something that allows you to play games on the console and then take the game away on the move.

This controller with the screen could just be that. An actual hand held gaming device that you can play the game anywhere and then sync back up when you get home!

We know it won't be, but what an idea that is!

You didnt watch the Sony presentation then? They showed this with Vita and the PS3.

I think Project Cafe is going to do something similar too. Personally I like the idea of having a game you can play on your main console and play a little add on game on the move as we saw a little of with the pocket station. It was fab on Final Fantasy 8.

Correct I missed the Sony one.

However that means buying both bits of kit. If someone did it 'out of the box' then that would be good.

again though, wasnt that the case with the vmu on the dreamcast? They had little minigames to play on them away from the console... although it didnt carry over to the main game after you reconnected them up.

The Dreamcast was boss!!! Is Elephant Soup still a member here? He was going to send me one!

I for one am quite impressed. The video they showed to demonstrate the consoles power was very good. Wonder how much it's going to cost though, Iwata himself has stated 'it won't be cheap'
