Default XBMC and Boxee on Apple TV1

Hi guys hope we are all well and happy now Osama Bin Liner is gone.

Now enough of the pleasantries and on to the problem.

I have had my apple TV 1 for a while now decided to hack it and get XBMC and Boxee working on it. All went well and has been working fine until now.
The problem is I have been adding files to my folder to watch them via either of the programs they can be seen but when I play them I dont get normal sound but a static sound the videos play fine just the above mentioned sound issue.

This is happening with only AVI and MKV files everything else works fine.

Any help info and advice you can share would be great

    Thanks

    Jaygo

Use this.. i did and it was the best investment I've made for my apple TV 1

    http://firecore.com/atvflash

Also go into XBMC system and change the sound output to or from 5.1 and optical/coax.. does it for me

I was thinking of buying one of the crystalHD cards to enable hardware HD playback but might go for this if it'll play 720P ok

Go for it mate! I get quality playback with it and the crystal card. Remember though that the crystal mod means losing wifi on the ATV

Is that because you use the slot currently occupied by the wifi card?

Actually apple cripple the ATVs so they can't do 1080p and 720p is the best you can get. I an quite happy with that but anyone who is gagging for 1080p needs a Revo.

In this case you'd be wrong, Revo 3700 pisses all over ATV, word.

I never said ATV was better than Revo if you look and read what I wrote I did mention a Mac mini which I'm sure will piss all over a Revo.

Ah yes, my bad. HOWEVER, I don't think an old MM will have the capabilities and a new one is way too expensive to be used as a media centre whereas a Revo 3700 is cheap, and designed to do the job which it does very, very well. I would ALWAYS back a MAC OS machine above Windows but on this occasion the Revo with Windows OR Linux is just superb.

I concur bro' I paid nearly 500 notes for my mac mini and that was less than retail because it was a couple of months old. My old mac mini was no match for a revo.

I'm actually thinking of replacing my revo with a mac mini. As good as the revo is, it's a bit underpowered as a 'normal' computer, which is what I want for multi use, not just a media player.

Go for the fastest processor they do, up the ram and run the short script that makes it run at 64 bit (by default snow leopard runs the is at 32 bit) I know you'll be well pleased with it if you decide to go for it.

HOWEVER remember you still won't get 1080p/24 you won't get 1080p AT ALL in fact just 720p.
The 64 bit script was a revelation on my 2009 iMac, who knew?

c2d mac mini does 1080p fine with plex and / or xbmc. At least xbmc forums thinks so.
