Nintendo to whack Wii price by 28%

'Wii 2' groundwork begins


We know Nintendo's next console will be out in 2012, and now we know the videogames pioneer is pruning the price of the Wii to keep the machine selling in the meantime.
In two weeks' time, the console will cost £50 less than it does now.
You can't buy a Wii on its own, only in a bundle pack with Wii Sports Resort. Currently, it costs £179. On 20 May, it will cost £129.
Nintendo will introduce a second bundle, based on Mario Kart Wii, on the same date. It'll contain the white Wii - the Wii Sports Resort pack will include the black version.
A range of cut-price copies of older titles - Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City - will be released on the same day. ®

Guess they need to now.

While the move and kinect will cost the same as the wii....many people would have bought their ps3s and xboxs so long ago that they won't consider the console console cost in addition to the purchase, only the cost of the 'addition' itself.

kinect and move arnt really competition and will have had no impact on the wii's price, its only logical the price should fall after the machine has been on the market for so long, its still the first official price cut the console has had since it was launched in Dec 2006, That much be a record, I remember the gamecube had a massive price cut before it was even launched

yeah i think they would do better to go under £99 now, possibly £75 would encourage people to buy a second console for their kids etc. as most people who want one would already have one by now

Recently picked up a 250gig 360 for £150 and this price is becoming an ever more frequent "special" sale price from Game, Amazon, Tesco etc, they will need to try MUCH harder!
