Dunno what you've done wrong then m8 - it should be there - there's a folder called tce on the disc - there are lots of tcz files in there including the leafpad one

On my usb stick version the tce folder is located at /mnt/sdc1/tce

Try opening the XFE filemanger program and look for the tce folder, then try using the app manager again and browsing to the folder location (keep clicking on the ../ at the top of the list to take you up a level in the folder tree all the way to the root folder

Are you booting from CD or have you made a usb stick?

hmmm..mine doesn't seem to have a leafpad either?

I've booted from the cd and it has found a WEP key, seems to have done everything it's supposed to but I cannot find a leafpad to open the keyfile and save it.. I've created a bootable USB but it doesn't seem to want to boot(used the method from the video)..how could I mount a USB device from within Beini and save the keyfile or install leafpad?..
will have another look at it again later..

If you've grabbed a WEP key, use it to connect, then click on apps icon on desktop.. click FILE - then on the remote option. .. type 'leafpad' in the search box, should list it, then click on install (bottom left).

I've written that from memory so some elements may not be correct, but if you just remember to click the remote option instead of local, should put you on the right road.

Help Re: Wifi crack tool that's totally point and click.

Sorry if i come across as thick, but when i set search to WEP, as in your tutorial, it finds nothing, if i change it to WPA/WPA2 it does find other networks, but then when i launch, it just says...

    Deauthentication now
Wait 40 seconds for authentication handshake

    ad infinitum

What am i doing wrong? or is it actually searching for the key?

    Thanks.

What it does when encryption is set in the scan screen to find access points with that (WEP) encryption, then it will only list these in it's results mate.. if it doesn't list anything in the results, that simply means the software could not detect any AP's within range that are using WEP.

Selecting WPA/WPA2 etc. is going to need a bit of research as unlike WEP, you would have to have a (Large) wordlist (Called a dictionary list) to try and find the WPA key.

WEP doesn't use this technique, hence it's easier to 'crack' as the software is basically scanning packets it intercepts and can finally find the key within these packets through decrypting them on the fly (Can be decrypted off line using various techniques as well).

Most wifi apps like this (including backtrack) tend to have the RTL8187L chipset drivers already set-up mate, So I always look for this chipset as it generally has a good following.

I currently use an Alfa Networks AWUSO36H external usb adaptor which is rtl8187L.

Don't think the rtl8187B one is as easy to setup, so make sure you look for the L version, which is used in other devices as well as mine.

Edit: Actually Malty, I'm happy to let you have my lads one if you want (FOC) as he's now using one like mine. You've helped people on here so I'm happy to do that..It's only a usb dongle and not the same thing as the pic above, but it works and you can plug it into a USB extension lead to get it closer to a window etc.

If you fancy it, PM an addy and I'll get it out Tuesday mate.

If you have muti boot iso you can just add an iso to a USB drive and boot off that good find

Got this running on an old pile of shite - stuck 3 nics, 2 detected, but one hangs the pc if I try to use.

The one that works is Realtek 8180/8185, also tried briefly yesterday with some dlink/atheros card.

Problem is it's got a homehub using WEP in it's sights but can't get WEP key, even after 24hrs.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks for this burner, the misses and her hot flatmate were gushing once I had them hooked up in their new apartment block

Ran the program from bootable CD. I can confirm that it works with the onboard WLAN cards of an oldish Dell Latitude D410 laptop and a newish Toshiba Satellite laptop.

Just seen this mate.. well, all I can think of is that it's a low to very low signal level beini is picking up from the wifi point, or possibly an AP that also has no clients: those elements combined could well cause the symptons you have.

One thing you could try is to invoke some traffic in a terminal window whilst the minidwep is grabbing IV's.. the way I usually do this with Backtrack is to open a terminal and type:
'aireplay-ng -1 1 -a VICTIMMACIP wlan0 (or whatever your wireless connection is called.

eg: the AP's MAC is 11:22:33:44:55:66 and your wireless device being used to connect and grab IV's is listed as wlan0, so the command line would be:

    aireplay-ng -1 1 -a 11:22:33:44:55:66 wlan0

I know beini is running some aireplay commands as well, but this one can induce more traffic.

Thanks Burner work great. I got Beini to boot off usb I tried it on my Laptop but it wouldnt pick up my internal Realtek RTL8187SE wifi card. I tried a Netgear wireless N USB dongle model WN111v2 and that worked perfectly, sniffing Wep no probs.
What works nicely with this is an App on the Iphone called WIFIFoFum on Installous, the iphone native wifi scanner will not tell you what type on encryption a network is using, this app scans all the networks in the area puts them in order of signal strength and lists what encryption is being used.
So if you have an iphone get that out first and let that point you to the Wep networks first saving running Beini for nothing.

    Cheers again OP
