    Default Freeview Recording Box

    Hi Guys
At the moment we have sky plus downstairs and i have a virgin media v+ box upstairs, i want to get rid of both but before i do i need something that will record all my programs for me just like the V+ box and Sky Plus do.

Is there a free-view box you can get that has a built in hard drive and will record things for you when you are not there.

i want to sort it as soon as possible as its going to save me quite a bit each month, as neither of them are used and all i really look at is the chans u can get on free-view anyway.

Any help will be really appreciated guys

    cheers

    There's tons of them!

Been a while since I used one but here's a link.

    http://www.freeview.co.uk/Freeview-Plus

For actually buying one I'd use ebay. Other than storage capacity you want to look out for if it does HD, and how many tuners it has.

just found a 160gig one for £60, i am not sure but i think the virgin one i have is only 80gig or 80hours recording i think it is, so even that would be fine for me

Pretty much any electrical retailer will have them, Dixons, Curry's, supermarkets, the now defunct Tandy's...

That does look good, is it HD though?

"Record 2 channels at the same time." As it's twin tuner I think you'd only be able to record two channels if you were watching one of them.

If you did some research in to it I'm pretty sure you can get some where you could stick a massive HD in and keep hundreds of hours of stuff so you could have a good film library.

250gig for £60 dont seem bad

welll to be honest m8 i dont need hundreds of hours as all i really record is soaps LOL (i know) so the twin tuner thing, does that mean i cant record 2 chans at the same time, and if i wanted to is there ones that will let me do it.

Ive never needed nowt like this as i have always had the virgin box but now i need to find out a lot more so need to do some research.

    thanks m8

oh i dont care thats its not HD either

Seems fine but might wanna read some reviews, see how good the software is, don't want one with a rubbish TV guide etc. Pretty sure it's not HD btw, scart connection.

to be honest m8, i dont care about Hd, ive never even used a tv guide on them, all i need is a box that will record a whole series when you press a button just like Sky plus and virgin V+ ones do.

my needs are really basic, just to be able to record 2 chans at once (if at all possible)
    record a whole series

    thats it.

    thanks for the help m8

The recording a series thing is part and parcel of the software and tv guide. Read some reviews

    .
But as it's Freeview he'll be able to watch another channel on the digital TV

EDIT. In the extremely unlikely event that you could find three things on at the same time that you'd want to watch!

yeah you should be fine. Sometimes depending on the channels you can record 2 and watch a third.

can anyone clear something up for me guys
as long as it has a twin tuner will it record 2 chans at the same time, the reason i ask is some say twin tuner but it says

Simultaneously watch one channel and record another

so im confused, if i dont want to watch one and record another can i still record 2 at same time while im not there??

Some do, some don't. just check the spec on the one you buy.

Some can be changed with a firmware update, but it's best to just by the one that does the job you want out of the box.

The one in your link says record two channels at the same time.

Hi I bought my dad a Philips HDT8520, it was 200 quid from comet but it's a really nice box and can record 2 channels whilst watching a 3rd and has a really nice epg.
It's got 500gb hard drive and the HD channels, he's loving it. but he didn't have to pay for it

i've got a humax pvr 9200t.. had it 3 years or so.. this can record2, whilst watching a 3rd.. these units will be cheap now i guess, it did cost me £200 back then..

Im sure they would be much higher quality than the newer cheaper units

IIRC the third channel you watch has to be on the same multiplex as one if the ones you're recording though.

With the two tuners you can access two multiplexes rather than channels, but you will be locked out of a third.
