Default Pointing a keyword domain to site?

Hi guys, I've spotted a .org domain name thats not been registered and it is the ideal search praise for my business. I wondered how I go about setting this new domain up?

Would I simply point it to my site or would I setup a new ftp account for this domain and reup a copy of the site files?

Any info would be great as I've never done this before and would hate to cause some kind of a negative effect on google.

    Cheers,

Once you've bought the .org domain change it's nameservers to the ones you currently have, then, if your hosting company allows it, park the .org domain

When the .org domain is parked set up a web re-direct on the .org domain to point to your main domain. Then, whenever anyone searches for yoursite.org they get re-directed to your main site

    Make sense?

Cool, yep that makes sense to me.

Then when the redirect is in place would I submit the new domain to google?

    Cheers

I have just noticed this thread and although it was back in May, I wanted to post to let others in a similar situation know that they should NOT create a duplicate site for the domain and indeed the redirect is the best way forward. Google will see a duplicated site as copied content and penalise it, instead redirecting that domain and building links to the new domains name will be the best way forward - use a 301 redirect.

I still haven't got round to doing this as since some spammer has reminded me, I've got another quick question.

I've decided to move my wordpress blog from one domain over to this new keyword rich domain that I've bought. I found a good plugin called backupbuddy that looks after the migration so thats not a problem.

What's puzzling me is when I've moved everything and delted the blog from the old site. What do I do next?? Do I need to tell Mr Google that the old pages have been deleted to avoid dead pages being listed? Upload a fresh sitemap etc?

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers,
