Introduction
The purpose of this post is to provide users with files from TomTom's premium speed camera service which usually costs £20/year. The files and information used for this post have been taken from another forum, but I am posting this as it is hopefully useful to someone here.
I can not vouch for the quality of this database in comparison to the PGPSW one, however, I ran a demo route between Hendon and Brentford, and it showed all the cameras which are present in the January 2011 PGPSW database that is floating around. Furthermore, it has average speed cameras for the M1 roadworks which are going on right now.
Overview
TomTom speed cameras are not listed as POIs and are instead managed in the application through TomTom Services -> TomTom Safety Cameras. Premium speed cameras take precedence over standard speed cameras (i.e. if you use premium, then standard is ignored), though they can be run side-by-side with the PGPSW speed camera database if you wish.
In a similar fashion to maps, you need to use a keygen - such as AutoActivate - with premium speed cameras to activate them with a valid .dct file. However, according to the source I took this information from, updates do not require subsequent activations; thus you should only need to run a keygen once. Instructions for activating the premium speed cameras are provided after the download section.
The following types of cameras for the UK are included:
- fixed speed cameras
- red light cameras
- bi-directional cameras
- vehicle restriction cameras
- average speed checks
- mobile camera hotspots
- (ungated) railway crossings
Camera locations are also provided for the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, US & Canada.
You can test whether the speed camera files are working by preparing a short route where you know there are speed cameras and using Show route demo (found under Details).
Download
- AutoActivate - extract this either to the root of your TomTom SD card or a folder on your hard drive. If you have a legally purchased map or anything else legally purchased on your device, make sure you back up ALL .dct files as a minimum before running AutoActivate!
- TomTom premium official speed cameras 24/05/2011[HIDE-THANKS]Download[/HIDE-THANKS] - extract the .ov2 and .ver files to the corresponding map folders (e.g. files Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2 and Safety_Cam_UK_PremiumOv2.ver extracted to the United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_870_3417 folder). Note that these speed camera files need to be activated before they will work.
AutoActivate instructions
AutoActivate is a tool for activating map, speed camera and fuel price files, and also for patching voice files. If you have a legally purchased map or anything else legally purchased on your device, make sure you back up ALL .dct files as a minimum before running AutoActivate! AutoActivate overwrites all .dct files when you execute it, and will make your legally purchased items unusable (unless you patch your ttsystem file).
In my experience, it does not like running without ttnavigator.bif and a complete map folder being present, so you may find it easiest to run it from the root of your SD card. If you choose to run it from your hard drive then you will need a copy of your ttnavigator.bif in the same folder as AutoActivate. Here are two example folder structures to help understand how you should use AutoActivate:
Running from hard disk
You would then run AutoActivate.exe and the .dct files for the map and speed cameras are generated. Copy the speed camera .dct file to the related map folder on your SD card.Code:C:\TomTom |- ttnavigator.bif |- AutoActivate.exe |- United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_870_3417\|- <all core map files> |- <any other files such as POIs etc.> |- Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2 |- Safety_Cam_UK_PremiumOv2.ver
Running from SD card
You would then run AutoActivate.exe and the .dct files for all maps and speed cameras are generated.Code:F:\ |- ttnavigator.bif |- AutoActivate.exe |- Some_Map_Here\|- <all Some_Map_Here files>|- United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_870_3417\|- <all core map files> |- <any other files such as POIs etc.> |- Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2 |- Safety_Cam_UK_PremiumOv2.ver
