Hmm this is something that Russ might know a little more about. My understanding is you would need to create a custom IPA file containing these files - that is, modifying the existing IPA to insert the files. In terms of activation, you would use device ID AAHBQB2XJE in the tool as that is the universal device ID for iPhone/iPod Touch releases of TomTom.

Let me see if I can get hold of an iPhone/iPod Touch to test it out on. If it works, I'll write up a guide.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding the files via SSH to the relevant folders in the app's installation folder, much like you'd add updated cam files onto a TT SD card - but I can wholly appreciate that things are never that simple!

Yeah that would probably work I can't change too much on this iPhone because it isn't mine so I'm going down the IPA route right now.

Have just tried using the activator to recreate the .dct file which activates the map and it works. Going to try the speed cameras now!

Right the premium speed cameras are working on my TomTom 1.6 UK/Ireland IPA, and I tested it for about 15 minutes to see whether the camera types are working correctly:

    • fixed speed cameras - tested on Hanger Lane off the A406 North Circular Road. Correct speed icons displayed on left-hand side of the screen and map.
    • red light cameras - tested near Hendon Central underground station (Watford Way/Hendon Way), NW4. Left-hand icon displays 40 (weird), map icon is fine.
    • bi-directional cameras - are these just Gatso cameras which work both ways? Anyway, tested on Wellingborough Road, NN10 where there is one of these cameras. Correct speed icons displayed on left-hand side of the screen and map.
    • vehicle restriction cameras - no idea where any of these cameras exist so could not test on a demo route.
    • average speed checks - tested between M1 J6A to M1 J10 and left-hand icons indicated either a SPECS camera without any speed, or alternatively showed a speed (50mph as it should be). Map icon showed SPECS camera.
    • mobile camera hotspots - tested around Heaton/Byker, NE6. Left-hand icon indicated mobile camera (but no speed), and map icon was the same.
    • (ungated) railway crossings - no idea where any of these cameras exist so could not test on a demo route.

I took several screen shots to illustrate the behaviour above, but will upload them tomorrow.

Essentially, to get the speed cameras working (and interestingly custom maps so that, for example, you can benefit from the latest v870.xxxx maps), you need to extract the TomTom application from its IPA, patch it using patchyDG, then generate a .dct for the speed cameras (or map). I'll do a guide on how to achieve this soon.
