Or better when someone else makes it?
For the purposes of the question, try not to take in to account cooking skills. a sandwich would be a good comparison.

If you're talking about the same ingredients, then definitely when you make it yourself.
You know exactly how you like something.
Shooooooo-ryuken!
Always when someone else makes it, especially a sandwich!

As much as I know exactly how I like stuff and have done well at cooking anything when I put the effort in, I just find the whole excercise a massive chore.
If I'm fending for myself I often won't bother cooking till I'm totally starving and by then I'm so hungry I'll eat it as soon as it's cooked just enough to be considered edible.
Prefer to do things myself when I'm bothered as I can gauge my seasoning etc. but if it's just a quick filler for time saving, someone else is a better option. Saying that, I can often go all day without eating if I'm engrossed in something or other and then bloat out on a 1K calorie hit in one go of as much carbs as I can find in the cupboard.

Dunno. Cant remember the last time I made myself something.
I have a woman for that!
im a pretty good cook if but a messy one but you cant beat a good meal made for you
Myself; as said above, I know how I like things.
However there are exceptions to the rule (which actually came up in conversation at the pub the other night). Using your example of a sandwich, even a badly made surprise sandwich beats one you have made yourself.
I do all the cooking in our house and really enjoy doing it but it is nice sometimes when someone else does it for you.
I like both. As said, when you cook something yourself, you can do it exactly to your tastes.
It's my birthday tomorrow and we have got friends coming to dinner. I was going to cook but decided instead to hire a private chef for the occasion. He provides the ingredients (I chose the menu), prepares and cook the food, serves and clears up afterwards. All I have to provide is the booze.
I shall let you know how it goes.

Much better someone else doing it as it is a much more relaxed process.
It's all about practice.
I recently knocked up a Katsu Curry Sauce and it was just like Wagamama's (in my eyes anyway).
You have to follow the ingredients to the letter to get it tasting like you would buy it.
So if you substitute butter for marge, half fat milk in place of full fat etc.. it is going to be less tasty.
The more you cook, the more you know what is missing and nex time you add to it.
We all make mistakes sometimes
I love cooking, but I just don't enjoy what it is I've cooked. Think its cause I've been tasting and half eating it whilst cooking so come to dish it up I'm not really hungry. I enjoy food more when its been made by somebody else.
Thats a good point. Always tastes better the next day.
I have started cooking stuff the day before now and it's bloody lovely the next day.
