    Default Any Shift Workers?

Are there any shift workers about? The company I work for are in the process of changing shift patterns and I've been looking for alternative patterns. I've found a few but if anyone knows of any decent patterns could they let me know what they are please. It would make my life a lot easier.

    Cheers

I worked shifts all my life, a bit more info is needed as to what your requirements are really in aid to help. Do you require 8/12 hr shifts? weekend working? 24/7 cover? how many different shifts could be manned..quite a few factors to be taken into account before just thinking of a new shift pattern.

I also work shift but agree more undo is needed about what sort of cover is needed My work requires 24/7 cover in 1 workshop and the other only requires 6 until 10 For the 24/7 workshop we work 4on 4off working 12 hour shifts so we would do 4 days, 4off, 4 nights and then 4 off The other workshop works on a 7,3,7,4 so you do 7 days on 3,off,7 on 4 off But they are 8 hour shifts and you would do 4 earlier then 3 lates then 4 off which always falls on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, monday then 3 eariles and 4 lates then 3 off which is always a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

When I was at RM, it was 3 shifts you could have -

    -Earlys - 6am to 2pm
    -Lates - 2pm to 10pm
    -Nights - 10pm to 6am

The other popular one was you do 4 days on x12 hour shifts and then get 4 days off

Is an overlay required? This is all information that should of been given in the original question. Your obviously a supervisor or some manager been tasked with job of coming with a new shift rota. Typical come on here asking for advice then back to your boss with a new powerpoint presentation on how great you are and get paid shit loads in the process. Better still I bet it wont be you having to work the bastard shifts anyway. I hate managers, usually arse lickers or yes men. Fucking cunts.

There's no need for that abuse nuvoix.

But back to shifts. What you need to know is how many people you have and how many are required on each shift. Do you need cover 24/7. Do you get paid for your breaks.

24/5 shifts are the 3 shift system. 40 hour weeks with paid break is 6-2 2-10 10-6. Unpaid breaks are 6-2:30 2 till 1:30 till 10 9:30 till 616/5 you just knock of the night shift from 24/5

24/7 are best 4 on 4 off 12 hours. Breaks must be paid for these afaik. You can have 4 days on 4 off 4 nights on 4 off or 2 days 2 nights 4 off.Lots of other shift patterns are used but these are the most common.

My favourite ever shift pattern was when i worked for a printing company a few years back, 3 12 hour shifts on, then 4 days off, worked out that once a month you got 7 days off, brilliant, didn't last though.

Yeah, sorry. Info was a bit vague. I'm not a manager, I'm just a grunt. The shift pattern we work at the minute is a bit a shit and I've been pushing to get it changed for about 8 months. Finally, HR & Management have agreed to let us change it on the condition that I do all the work myself. The shift pattern we work at the moment is a continental one where we work 21 8hr shifts (a combination of afternoons, days & nights) with a 10 day break in between. There are 5 shifts covering the plant 24/7. The major gripe we have at the minute is what we call a quick turnaround. We finish at 11pm one evening and are back to work at 6.30am the next day. By the time you get home and have a wind down it's more or less time to get up again. Fucks your body clock up for the rest of the week. I think a lot of the lads like the idea of 12 hour shifts but with 5 shifts I think it works out that we work a lot less hours over the course of a year. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Sorry I'm a cunt. In 20 years I'm still yet to be proved wrong about managers though.

How many hours are required to work a week? paid breaks? amount of breaks? length of breaks?

No wonder you're bitter, in 20 years you're still stuck on the first rung of the ladder!

That would be funny if it wasn't true. I have though progressed from being a forklift driver to a highly skilled aeronautical engineer. Still working bastard shifts though.

Our company is working the same shifts that have allready been said above

    -Earlys - 6am to 2pm
    -Lates - 2pm to 10pm
    -Nights - 10pm to 6am

around 70% of our guys are agency, so their shifts may be cancelled, or extended depending on workload.

some other areas of the buisness are doing 4on4off, but the shifts are totally dependent on whats required when.

The building has to be staffed at all times by one of the shifts, of which there are 5. No need to worry about breaks or stuff like that.

    Okay here's mine....a 4 shift pattern and equals a 39hr average week (i think)
2 dayshifts followed by 2 nightshifts followed by 4 days off.
Normal dayshift Sunday til Friday is 7am til 7.20pm and nighshift is 7pm til 7.20am
Saturdays are dayshift 7am til 4.50pm and nightshifts are 9pm til 7.20pm
If the second nighshift falls on a Saturday we dont work it.
We have two 15min breaks at 10 and 4.30 and a 30 min dinner is at 1 (am or pm depends on shift)
Break times are 5mins paid and dinner is unpaid.
If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

I used to work night shifts and the pattern for all shifts was:

Nights, 9:30pm to 6:30am Monday to Thursday = 36 hours.

Mornings, 6:30am to 2pm Monday to Thursday and 6:30am to 1:30pm on Fridays = 37 hours.

Afternoons, 2pm to 9:30pm Monday to Thursday and 1:30pm to 8:30pm on Fridays = 37 hours.

All of those shifts have two 15 minute breaks.

Nights were fixed, the two day shifts rotated one week about.

Our place has a pattern that runs over 6 weeks basically 12 hour shift day and night. starts as 3 days on, 2 days off, 4 nights on, 8 days off, 4 days on, 2 days off, 3 nights on then 16 days off.
It does require 6 shift points to cover 24/7

Mint shift pattern to be honest some monts you only have to d a weeks work....

I work shifts and love it... so much time off.. here is my pattern..

    4 x 12hr nights (7pm to 7am) Mon night - Fri morning
    3 days off
    Mon - Wed 12 hr days (7-7)
    Thurs off
Fri night to mon morning 3 x 12hr nights
    Mon morning - wed off
    Thurs - Sun 4 x 12hr days (7-7)
    week off
Pool week (if not covering annual leave or sick this week costs 22.5hrs annual leave) so i normally book it off

Basically 2 weeks off in every 5 and days off inbetween (still works out to be a 36hr week)

    Love it!!
