Default what's the scariest film you've ever seen??

I seem to be in a horror / scary mood for films just lately.
So thought I'd ask, which one has scared you the most.

I always remember watching friday 13th as a kid and being terrified.

Now though I' haven't seen anything that has scared me or made me jump.

For me it was the Blair Witch project.
I have the kind of mind that fills in the blanks if you know what I mean and the bit at the end when the
    Spoiler:
Kid is stood against the wall in the basement
    freaked me out big time

Mind you, playing Alan Wake scared me shitless at times too

I saw Child's Play when I was 5, that has made me immune to horrors now really.

Movies that were good in cinema:
    Paranormal Activity
    The Grudge (US remake)
    The Ring (US remake)

    Session 9 is pretty freaky.

Other than the above I can't really remember any that have put me on edge, I would like to hear of some though as I love horrors. Unfortunately as I grew up in the age of special FX I never had the shock of going from poor visuals to incomprehensible visuals.

Not so much movies, but the Hammer House Of Horror series which used to be on every Saturday night used to scare the shit out of me(I was 8-9 at the time) NFI why I kept watching them.
Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

I thought Orphan was a very good. The through that 'a child' was capable of that was surreal. Even more so when you are a parent!

I find the best horrors for me are psychological or ones where the 'evil' is an unknown entity and how to stop it/escape is impossible e.g. The Grudge and The Ring. Most horrors who just have evil people in them don't do much to me as it's obvious how to stop them.

The orphanage is a good film, I like big plot twists. Slashers, although sometimes enjoyable, are usually laughable rather than scary.

Good shout. I remeber seeing one called Charlie Boy about a wooden idol that brought about a series of unfortunate deaths. Scared me stupid. As an adult, I'd say seeing The Exorcist at the cinema would be the scariest. Can't remember which one, but they used to show it every friday at midnight, somewhere in Manchester. This was in 1990 and the place was packed.

probably the ring for me, most stuff doesnt bother me but creepy little kids do, i think its because i always think (in regards to the Friday the 13th, Zombies, etc.) i always figure you could at least have a go to twat them however you cant hit kids, not even creepy ones crawling out of the TV trying to rip your face off lol
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

I watched the birds when I was about 5 or 6 and my brother used to make stupid pecking noises for about 4 years of a night to scare the shit out of me lol also gremlins when I was little, I think personally these also contributed to a bed wetting issue, mainly cos I was to scared to go for a piss in the night! Even now as a thirty year old my brother makes a crow noise at me still the prick lol

When you say scary, do you mean appearing in your dreams to "shit you up" etc??

The only character to come after me in my dreams was Sadako from the original version of "The Ring" (and no, not the stupid American remake)...'kin bitch wouldn't leave me alone for a whole few days after I watched it..lol..

Other than that - Arachnaphobia is a film I'd rather not watch again.

    Thanks to doughboy

The original Candyman got me as a kid. Stare at the mirror afterwards and say CandyMan 3 times

Nowadays, all Horror Films are shit. Nothing is scary enough, the writers are now using the 'make them jump' tactic rather than the psychological approach - censorship perhaps?
Pinhead from Hellraiser was another that got me, but blood's just blood these days, rivers of it are just.... RED!?!

The thing that makes me cringe is the 'finger nails down the chalk board' noises in The Grudge that makes me feel eerie.

If it scary movies you want try here.
