I've been away at sea for the last month, so I've had plenty of time for reading I worked through

5 Dexter books (Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dexter by Design, Dexter in the Dark, Dexter is Delicious and Dearly Devoted Dexter) by Jeff Lindsay, they're not bad, but having seen the TV show, I try to fit the book characters with the TV actors and it doesn't really work, the books are significantly different from the TV series as well, except the first one.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, fairly short, and the language used is nice, I read it mostly because I was aware of Dorian Gray as a character in film and Graphic Novels, but had no idea of the original character.

The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy, because I can really, I've read it many times and it's one that I know I can pick up and enjoy if there's nothing else that takes my fancy (someone on board has a taste for terrible "Davinci Code" style novels, and there's only so many I can read before I start to wish I hadn't started)

Dune by Frank Herbert, I'd seen it on best seller lists, and top 100 lists, but always assumed that it was probably just hype. the first dozen pages or so, I wasn't impressed, the use of "futuristic" words made me feel a bit like I had started halfway through, and didn't really know what the heck was going on, however, the storyline very quickly gripped me, and I poured through it in about 3 days (not non stop reading) absolutely loved it (I have a few of the sequels too, so I hope they're as good)

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, I enjoyed both of them, I'd always wanted to read them. Use of language is interesting, and I like the way Twain writes regional accents, though it can be a bugger trying to imagine the right sound of the word (if that makes any sense) at times.

the only downside I have with books by James Patterson is that they dont last long enough, I just get in to them and its whoops it done. Now I will admit, its not his best book but his writing does seem to be heading back in the right direction more so than his more recent books be they by him alone or co-authored anyway

just started a freebie from amazon called Snow White: Rose red crime thriller stories by saffina desforges from what understand its based on the fairytale with snow white and rose red as lesbians or police lesbians or something,

If you read the Dexter books, you'll soon see Lindsey has a love of alliteration, and uses it to wonderful effect.

Currently reading "dude, where's my country?" By Michael Moore. I'm surprised he hasn't been a target for assassination.

    Thanks to Ganty

Give him long enough to fall completely off the radar and he'll probably be found dead after a quick 'power wank' (auto erotic asphyxiation)

On the book side though I've decided to save the Robert McCammon for a week because I'm thinking of jumping on a plane and spending a week somewhere warm it's been 5+ years since my last holiday that consisted of more than staying at home and doing jobs around the house like fitting the kitchen or wiring the whole house with cat5.

So this means I had to pick something new, so it came down to 2, the first being Without remorse by Tom Clancy and the second the last (book 9) of the Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard.

I went with Without remorse and it's not bad it's the first I've really read of his, and I've got to say I'm surprised I'm enjoying as much as I am. I'm about 22% in so far and the story is really starting to flow smoothly and believably

I'm really not far enough in to give a proper recommendation. what I would say though is that I wouldn't advise anyone to avoid it based on what I've read so far

I think it was the first Tom Clancy book I read, and I really enjoyed it, however I can't remember too much about it, since it wa a while ago.

I finished Full Dark, No Stars by Mr King a few days ago and thought it was a great collection. All 4 of the stories had me gripped, my favourite being 1922.

Now reading Daemon by Daniel Suarez and I can't put it down!

Really? For me 1922 was the weakest and most predictable of the 4 (5). All very dark tales though.

I enjoyed all of them but 1922 seemed to get under my skin more than the others.

I thought 1922 seemed to be more like his old style but they all seemed decent enough with the exception of fair extension which I thought was terrible, Maybe he needed something to fill the pages I don't know but it would have been a better collection of novellas without it,

ive just called in asda on my way home and picked up John Ajvide Lindqvist's new book Little Star and going by the cover it sounds like a pretty decent book, there is a quote on the front saying its as good as stephen king at his prime but it says that on a lot of thrillers/horrors, I have read Harbour which was John Ajvide Lindqvist's last book and I enjoyed that so fingers crossed

I picked up The Good Jihadist the new Bob Shepherd book at Asda Docklands the other day as I enjoyed the Infidal.

Currently reading Chris Ryan - Killing for the Company with a new main action man who only has one leg and the problems that entails whilst killing people and saving the girl. 5/10 so far but only a quarter through it.
