as good as John Ajvide Lindqvist's new book claims to be it's not its terrible, I thought harbour was a decent book but I cant help but think little star was slapped together and shoved out the door, im approaching page 90 and i've found at least 4 spelling errors and tens of grammer/ punctuation errors, maybe its from the conversion from the native language I dont know but it makes it really hard to read.

maybe I was expecting too much?

I just read The Last Stand by Jason Pensill, I can't remember why but it kept popping up on Twitter. It's basically about a young guy that started out making money from phone hacking and moves onto insurance fraud, drugs and poker, not quite what I was expecting but it's a true story and he's had a pretty harsh life at times!

You can download it for free from his own blog as well:

Am a little way into The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexander Dumas. Very well written and enjoyable book. The size of it (and the small print) is slightly daunting but it is a classic and came highly recommended by the mate who lent it to me (paperback).

Just a heads up for those with e readers the latest Lee Child (Jack Reacher) book called the Affair has leaked a week early than the planned release date and is available in all the usually places 8o).

Going to start on it at the weekend.

I finished the latest Chris Ryan book Killing for the Company and didn't really enjoy it as much as I expected to.

Currently in the middle of the new Bob Shepherd book The Good Jihadist.

A now familiar formula that's easy reading and recommended although I did get a few odd looks on the tube reading it.

    Thanks to JonEp

nice one m8, I didn't know it was almost release time, I've had this on preorder for about a month I'm still rationing myself to 2 Lee Child books per month or id have non left lol

Ok before I say this its not often I'd say to avoid a book at all costs but Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist is unbelievably bad, to me it felt like the story was patchy at best and the dialogue came over as stunted. Ignoring that to me the story seemed at times to jump perspective and changed from the 1st person to a narrator then to the 3rd person in the space of a chapter and a half made it feel vague at a time when it should be thundering to the wrap up at the end. Let me put it this way normally I go through 3-4 books a week sometimes more (especially if its a James Patterson or Lee Child) but this one has taken me 5 days and it feel like its took me twice that.

for a little light relief im going to read The Radleys by Matt Haig its supposed to be quite good and was part of the more4 Tv book club summer reads I've not really read the back I know its about vampires but not in a twilight way (although embarrassingly I've read the twilight saga and quite enjoyed it lol)

Just finished the latest Lee Child book the Affair and what a bloody good book it was.

I thought he and his publishers had lost the plot and were milking his audience last year with two books in one year both below grade.

This time he has come back with a great book with a well thought out none rushed ending and shags the same women six times. Good man !

If you like Jack Reacher you will love this book.

    Thanks to JonEp

The Lee Child's formula is like a literary drug.

I really thought he had fu@ked it last year but this is perhaps the best he has ever written starting at the beginning when he his still in the army and you just know her will revisit the leading lady in a later book.

Not bad for a bloke from Coventry named Jim Grant...

I'm just about to finish reading the Stieg Larsson trilogy which I have enjoyed massively. Looking for something else to occupy me, I think Lee Childs might fit the bill from what I've heard/read

I thought the millennium trilogy were brilliant I just hope the movie will do them justice, there have been rumors that there's a fourth millennium book that remains unfinished although that said its been denied by his partner,

unfinished or not I'd still love to read it

so you dont get an over load of either try one then the other, I read the karin slaughter ones one after the other and I wish Id taken a bit of a time between each book, which is what ive been doing with the lee child books that way although you're reading the same amount of books you get to look forward to the next knowing you have at least 20 books lined up and ready to go; and reading one after the other could make it a bit of a slog to get through them all, I read all 9 of the Pretty little liars by sara shepard one after the other and by the end I was sick to the back teeth of them

I've already read the rest of the Lee Child ones so might go for that next then as you say alternate a bit - not like there isn't plenty to choose from. Read a few Colin Forbes ones back to back a few years ago and you could predict what was going to happen as they followed such a similar theme.

I had the same sort of thing with the pretty little liars books, by the end I could have skipped two thirds and still not have missed something important

This week I read the new Andy McNab Book Dead Centre. Book very similar to Chris Ryan's book involving Somalia, boats, hostage taking hero you get the idea. Not one of his best but enjoyable never the less.

Someone has suggested to me a series of legal thrillers by David Hosp. Dark Harbor (2005) The Betrayed (2006) Innocence (2007) Among Thieves (2010).

I also have John Le Carre Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy to get through before I watch the film but I'm going to start with Dark Harbor and see how it goes.

    Thanks to JonEp
