9 MONTHS? did you do any exercise in the mean time or just rest it completely?

i took a couple of months really light

youd be surprised how much you use shoulders

    back exercises, curls, friggin everything

id be driving and id feel a sharp pain whilst steering

    its a bad injury

my serious advice would be to give it the time it needs to heal. any sign of soreness / tenderness and stop exercising immediately.

    Thanks to Zippeyrude

I had a rotator cuff injury and it took 1-2 years to heal fully (although all of my injuries seem to take long to heal!). I had scans and nothing was torn or broken but it's the most complex joint in the body. I left it altogether for a while, then started doing physio for it. Whether you think 9 months - 2 years is a long time, just remember if you don't give it enough time to heal, you could reinjure it worse.
