Serious Hotmail/Facebook password hack or bypass?

Guys. My family and I need to access an e-mail account and a facebook account. They both belong to my nephew who died recently. There are a number of reasons we need to access these, but nothing illegal. I understand hotmail is pretty close to impossible, but we figure that if we could get into his Facebook we could then change the e-mail address and open another hotmail for FB. The people at both hotmail and Facebook have been less than helpful, which is kind of understandable really. IS there any way of doing this, or are we just going to have to lose these accounts and the things they have?

There's no hack, you need the answers to the security questions.

    Thanks to Mule

Facebook and Live are very secure these days and 'cracking' in is virtually impossible.

Facebook's Privacy Policy for Deceased Users.
How do I report a deceased user or an account that needs to be memorialized or deleted?

    Memorializing the account:
Please report this information here, so we can memorialize this person’s account. Memorializing the account restricts profile access to confirmed friends only. Please note that in order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone.

    Removing the account:
Verified immediate family members may request the removal of a loved one’s account. This will completely remove the account from Facebook, so no one can view it. We will not restore the account or provide information on its content unless required by law. If you are requesting a removal and are not an immediate family member of the deceased, your request will not be processed. In this case, the account will be memorialized.

If you are an immediate family member and would like to request that we remove your loved one's account from the site, click here. You may also use this form if you have a special request regarding a deceased user's account.

I'm almost certain, the only way to get information from these accounts (without the passwords) is to go through the authorities.
They can ask Facebook or Live for the the information, so long as they believe there is a reason to do so.

Already explaining to Facebook that the user is deceased is likely to Memorialize there profile.

There are few other places on net that people would go to the trouble to dig this info out. Nice one and very useful info..

The only issue with all that, is that whilst you can see the e-mails, you can't actually do anything with the account. What we're after doing, ultimately, is adding somebody onto his friends list who he would've added but didn't get chance to.
Great info that will hopefully be of more use to others than it was to me. I do appreciate it though.

If you explain the situation and intend to Memorialise the account then you might find some compassion contacting facebook as what you are aiming to do doesn't appear to circumvent any privacy unless he had privacy settings blocking all but friends from viewing his photos etc. Worth a shot anyway.
