    Attention Shaving cut turned bad

I cut myself shaving last Saturday (9th July) just under my right nostril.

By Sunday night it wasn't looking good so I put some Sudocrem on it when I went to bed. I probably put a little too much on as you are only meant to apply it thinly. When I woke up Monday morning, it was more like a burn, about the size of a 2 pence coin. All week it got worse; I tried Savlon and then Vaseline as I read that antiseptic creams aren't that effective (apparently they just sit on the surface?).

By this Saturday (1 week on) I was in a lot of pain with it. It hurt to talk, eat, laugh sneeze etc etc. It was an open sore that was constantly weeping a yellow discharge and looked pretty grim too. So I went to the Minor Injuries Clinic and they diagnosed that it was either Impetigo or a fungal infection.
Apparently there is a lot of natural bacteria around the nostrils and this would have caused the cut to become infected. They prescribed me with Fucedin (a cream containing Fucedic acid) and although still a bit sore and unshavable, it has cleared it right up in less than 48 hours.

The nurse at the clinic said to me "Why didn't you come here sooner?" and obviously I wish I had but I thought it was just a bad cut that was going to heal eventually.

Thought I would share this as a precautionary tale.

yeah thats impetigo! - i got it in college. The bacteria is stored in the nostrils inbetween out eyes and we all have it. I left mine for 2 weeks thinking it would go away - big mistake

Get plenty of vitamin C inside you to help your body fight the infection. Aim for 1000-2000% of the RDA.

Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

No probs, thought it would benefit my curiosity and an image might help others know if they ever get the same.
