Help time to get a mac!

hi my girlfriend is really doing well the her photography and we have decided to get a mac, i have a 10% code for best buy and see they have two versions of a 27" iMac was wondering what the differences are as i cant see any other than the price!

and what one would be good for photoshop, also ive seen photoshop about on the newsgroups in mac sections is it the same as pc burn to disc and away you go?

just read the site again one is an I5 intel the other an I3 whats the main plus and minus points and what one would you go for?

    Thanks in avance

My immediate thought is that the i5 iMac is likely a Quad Core and the i3 will be a Dual. The pro's and con's are specific to the individual, the i5 will cost more as it's more powerful than the i3. You might find the i5 comes with a dedicated video card and the i3 is onboard.

Photoshop can be downloaded from the newsgroups, there are instructions with it how to install it.

i3 should be fine for what you are doing - just depends how much you want to spend how long it needs to last. I am still using a core 2 duo 2.26Ghz and don't have any problems running photoshop, illustrator, Xcode, PS3 media server, chrome etc at the same time. Just make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM I would say this is the minimum.

Apples support website has some great cheat sheets and tutorials.

http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ - aimed at people switching from windows

http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/ - aimed at general mac usage

Also if your near an apple store the onetoone service is good for getting a hands on teaching experience

    cheers

Cheers mate, that has helped her out a bit, ive sorta give up on it in all honesty, half of its the OS and the fact that ive got a convenient laptop thats allways sitting there, the other half is where we have it placed, you get a terrible neck ache using it need to get it put somewhere more permanent and il prob start using it more.

    Thanks again

Mac OS is SUCH a doddle, you are giving up way to easily.
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

When I had a mac book I loved the OS. It did take a while to get used to, mind.
