Editing MP4 on a mac. iMovie ?

Hi,

I'm wanting some software to edit mp4 movies that have come from my phone (720p mp4) but unsure what to buy.

If iMovie does it, then that's the obvious choice but it's unclear from my searches if it does.

Mainly I want to edit/chop scenes etc (just basic stuff, nothing fancy) and the result will be usually uploaded to youtube

Anyone got any experience doing this and can point me at software I need to try/buy ?

I'm currently extracting VHS to digital (Mammoth videos) started last year but gave up, I tried a few things but I was having problems with just about every piece of software I used, mainly because the original video AND audio I was using had been manipulated in VERY expensive audio and video studios. I have to get on with it tomorrow and Friday so if I come up with anything I'll shout!

I'm fairly surprised iMovie doesn't do it otb to be honest. I don't want to be buying something that might not work and Google is largely inconclusive.

haven't used toast in years as I use the freeware 'Burn' to burn discs. Can toast edit/cut scenes in mp4 files then mate ?

im using toast ten it will convert etc but not edit

I don't think it does what I want, which is just a simple editor, but thanks anyway
