back pain diary

well bit of an update with my back problems, i went to see the pain clinic the other week and they gave me something called a tens machine. this is annoying, expensive and totally impracticle for me. its cost around �15 in batteries so far and when i go back im going to tell them not to bother with this any more.

I have been told that i have the option of getting an injection into the nerves at the bottom of my spine where the problem is to numb them and im leaning towards this. the only thing that bothered me is that they are simply masking the pain/problem and whatever is causing the pain will still be there, i could be grinding my spine down and not know it.

anyone else had any experience with this? advice on this type of treatment? thanks

yes it will mask the pain, its an epidural more than likely by blocking the transmission of signals through nerves in or near the spinal cord, i guess your already on ibuprofen or Diclofenac which will help stop inflammation, other than that its a case of take it easy but at the same time keep moving as keeping it still is the worst thing, thoug i guess you already know all this, i get back probs

last time it took around 6 months to stop hurting

though i got siatica as well, for pain a combo of what ever drugs help you best, i ended up on tramadol and diazipam :/ and slopadol, still hurt but made it more bareable

I've had injection into the nerve at the bottom of my spine to numb the pain the a year ago.
The only problem which they did not tell me about was if I stand or walk for about 5 mins my foot go's numd and this numness travels up my leg to my back. ( feels like your legs gone to sleep)

When I told my consultant he said aleast the pain has gone away. but now when the numbness starts I have to sit down till it clears.

I had back trouble and sciatica for about 2 years tried everything from acupuncture, tens, prescription drugs. In the end I upped my exercise and strengthened my abs which pulled my back in place, was very hard at first but well worth it in the end as I was near pain free. started on a static bike as that was the easiest for my back (except getting on) lost about 3 stone. Still get twinges now and again and my foot goes numb, but I did hit the point where I couldn't walk so a twinge I can live with.

Wouldn't wish it on anyone
