Info How To: Install Preware onto the HP TouchPad plus overclocking.

Steps to install Preware on your new webOS tablet, the HP Touchpad is fairly simple. This is very similar to the method that is used for webOS phones.

    1. Turn on Developer mode

    - You turn on developer mode for the HP TouchPad the same way as a smartphone.

Go to Just Type and type "webos20090606" without quotes or "upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart" without quotes.
Any of these will prompt the search to pull of the Developer Mode. You turn it on and your device should be in developer mode. If it requests a password you may just press submit.

    2. You use webOS Quick Install and select the feeds application, and select Preware. And Boom! Preware is installed. Simple and easy.

If you do not have webOS Quick Install you may get it at this link.
    http://www.filesonic.com/file/1411099974

    or
    http://forums.precentral.net/canuck-...-v4-2-3-a.html

So basically ..... put your Touchpad in developer mode then connect your Touchpad to your computer. On your touchpad it should ask you if you want to use your touchpad as a usb drive click cancel and then open webOS Quick install on your computer and follow the instructions above

I currently have these on mine .....

    Spoiler:

and a rather handy shutdown/restart patch which is a bit more functional than the standard option ...

    Tried Angry Birds, looks great

I am quite impressed with it, can't wait for Android though

It is quite heavy and holding it for prolonged periods becomes tiring.

I have need for speed hot pursuit on it and its ok , once you get used to moving the screen around

Preware is kinda like installous but just homebrew

There are games and apps available at various places and one way to install them is through Preware/install packages

There is also a 650Mb zip about with some games and apps in for HP Touchpad , but its hosted on one of them shitty "free slots" available download sites that never has any free slots available , and when there is they are shit slow.

*edit : im really liking Spaceblip HD and Quell HD , a couple of nice little games

It's a shame they are mostly pre files, a bit small on the Touchpad, perhaps we can get a list together and add to it as we find pad apps as opposed to pre?

XBMC Remote for WebOS has been updated to accommodate the TouchPad by the looks of things - although I cannot find the updated version at the moment to check.

    EDIT.
Gonna add a few more hamsters the wheel in mine after reading ClubberLang's recommendation. Cheers.

    EDIT2.
HOLY Shit does that make a difference. Boots up in seconds, responds soooo much faster and it is soooo customisable it's mind boggerling!

ClubberLang - You need to start a new thread on this. It is truly amazing.

--EDIT-- Fixed video - Forum was being gay.

Have you guys got both cores overclocked? You can check in Govnah. Normally it only overclocks the first core and you have to create a new profile (name it 1.7 or dual or whatever) with Govnah set to Ondemand and not ondemandCTL then move the new profile up the list as the touchpad boots into the profile which is first in the list, save then reboot.

If that's the case I wonder why they left it like that?

Set to ondemand and it's clocked both cores now. I'm leaving Govnah on and I'll monitor the temp for now methinks, it's a big speed boost though particularly on top of the other tweaks.

Just a thought here, does the f15 kernel ONLY run the second kernel at the faster speed when required if set to ondemandCTL, might be a battery hit, again lets's monitor. When I get some time I'll start a clocking thread and we can get it all in one place, in the meantime I'll sticky this one.

    This is driving me nuts.

    After adding:
    webos-kernels-testing
    http://preware.is.awesome.com/

Restarting the Touchpad and going back into preware I keep getting errors.

No matter what I do I cant add the last feed.

I love this tablet and also the OS, the only thing which MIGHT drive me to Android on it is the lack of apps, even then I'll hold on for Gingerbread. Having said that we might see more apps since it's only the hardware which is defunct and the boost given by the firesale might just get some devs to pick up the pace. With the tweaks and 1.9 overclock it flies, in fact the tweaks alone made such a diference that I might drop my clock speed to 1.7.

Temp seems fine though since I have only monitored it in Govnah I can't compare, no battery hit as far as I can see, I'm two charges in and it is still settling down and improving. If I reduce the clock speed it will just be a precaution, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the difference if you try 1.9.
