Help I've managed to kill my N900!

    hi
I overclocked my N900 this morning and everything was fine but the camera wouldn't work, so I went about reverting to normal but somehow I've managed to get it stuck into a constant reboot?
anyway, though all I can do is reflash it with new software..I have the meamo flasher but what version software do I flash it with??

    I have downloaded:

    RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin

    and:

    RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin

    any ideas please?
    many thanks in advance

They are the 2 files I last used on my N900 - are you ok with the flasher commands or do you need a hand?

Remember to flash the MMC first and then the firmware without allowing the phone to boot in between the flashes

In a nutshell here's how I flash them (not teaching you to suck eggs if you know this - just thought it might be useful for anyone else who might not know)

Assuming you've already downloaded the maemo flasher tool and installed it

1 - Start the command prompt utility as Administrator
2 - cd to the flasher folder - I usually copy the folder that gets created in program files/maemo....... to the C: drive and rename it to something like C:\Flasher
3 - copy the flash files into the folder
4 - connect the phone to the usb cable while keeping the U key held down while you switch the phone on - it'll go into usb mode but shouldn't boot fully at this stage (should only see a usb symbol on screen)
5 - flash the MMC first with :-

    flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f

6 - as soon as the flashing is complete flash the main firmware with :-

    flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin -f -R

As soon as it's completed the phone should reboot automatically and be usable as if it had just come out of the box

Impossible to brick the n900 lol. Ive only used the 7700 flasher (where you hold down the U key and boot up the n900 to get into usb host made)

cheers mate, but I can't get it to usb mode..(nokia logo screen and small usb icon in top right)

I'm ok with the commands but having to install Xp now on a laptop as flasher isn't liking vista64bit and telling me it's waiting for suitable usb device..failing that I'm onto Win7 and MS virtual PC next

    oh and then UbuntuLiveCD!!

You need to hold down the U key, power it on with no usb cable attached..any luck? You should see a blinking usb icon if successful

I believe you're able to just flash the firmware - I've just always completely wiped it as that seemed to be the best option most of the time - eliminates everything that might be caused by anything bad or corrupted on the EMMC bit.

Have you tried removing the battery for a few mins first and then trying to go into the usb mode?

Or trying to run the flasher commands with it rebooting and just keeping the U key held down (long shot but might work) - the flasher will just keep waiting for the comms link to the phone so certainly can't make it any worse - if it does make the connection it should hold it and complete the flash hopefully.

It may be bricked though - the very first n900 I got did that right out of the box - thought it was just a flat battery in the shop - didn't find out it was fecked till I got it home and tried to charge it - went back the next day and got it swapped, seem to remember reading there were a lot of others having the same issue at that time.

Can I ask what speed you was running before it went tits up? I had mine running super smooth at 1.2ghz its disgusting how much better the phone is once it has some boost. I found a security presentation on the n900 and i never realised that there was a fullyworking release of Bracktrack, wireshark and TOR all running on it. I'm very tempted to purchase another one.

sanj, it was running fine at 250-850 but I found that my camera had stopped working and tried reverting back to original kernel, think I must have messed up the uninstall and that led to the situation. I was really happy also with it's new found power.. yes, I had found the backtrack soft too..

can I ask what method you used to overclock and did your camera(and everything else work) after please?

managed to remove the kernel and get back to stock no probs this time.. phew..

I cant find the 900mhz kernal i was using, but it looks like you can overclock directly on the phone with this -

Ok then time to use different kernals..fun fun fun.

Grab the 900mhz or 1ghz kernal and follow the instructions -

    http://thehandheldblog.com/2010/04/0...he-nokia-n900/

I had mine set to the 900mhz kernal and EVERYTHING worked alot quicker
