Do you type www. ?

Just interested in how many people still write in www. at the beginning of web addresses. Having been on the net since the beginning of the web I still do it out of habit but should really try and break the habit to save valuable seconds of my life and excess 'w' key wear.

I do but only because I test a lot of sites that I have designed and have built for me and the lazy feckers can't be arsed to redirect the URL so http://testsite.com won't work as http://www.testsite.com works fine.

I haven't typed http:// for years though, now I come to think of it.

don't bother typing the w's anymore. Don't even mention them when reading out URLs.

No not usually...but as already said, sometimes without it you don't get redirected properly...

I've started doing what initially drove me nuts when others did it, just typing the body of the address into google.
I'm also very used to using google chrome now which always remembers sites you have used and suggests them as soon as you have types the first few letters.

I'm the same as 909 always use chrome so Just start typing the website. Before I used chrome it was safari and didn't use the w's either.

I personally don't anymore, I use chrome too (why would anyone use anything different except on mobile???), but occasionally when we are testing a big release I will try all the different variants just to be sure.

I don't as I use Chrome but I find if I don't use them in IE it does a crappy bing search instead of taking me to the site.

Enter the name of the site, i.e "digital-forums" then press Ctrl+Enter.

Only works with .com sites but I think you can change that too somewhere.

At home I have chrome and only type a couple of letters.


At work we are stuck with ie8, was ie6 until recently. Damn IT department. So I quite often type the full address. ie. http://www.

Although.. I have just noticed there is no http on my home browser any longer.

I mentioned this a while ago, years ago before people were as connected as they are now, companies would give out their webaddress with the full http;//www, then a few years ago, then went to www. now you see places saying/writing "go to "sportsshop.com"

Similar happens with phone numbers and dialling codes, always 0161 manchester always now people will say call us on manchester, 423 9546

I use google for everything e.g type Barclays bank into the google search box and click the first result... Praise the Google Lord

Google chrome user here. Just does it all for me.

Almost type it right - Press Enter - Google fixes it. Lazy mans browser.
I use quite a few shortcut keys too, like
Ctrl-T, Ctrl-N, Ctrl-Tab,
Ctrl+Shift+N, Ctrl+Shift+T <- Handy as fook!
And the space bar is handy in chrome too.

I still type them for the same reason, just got used to doing it over the years.

In fact, I tried typing an address without the Ws, and though it worked, it felt wrong.

This reminds me of my mum's method of navigating to hotmail - I set google up as the start up page then she just types in www. then hotmail comes up first in the list of autocompletes and she clicks that.

I really want to tell her she's doing it totally wrong, but the other part of me is amazed at the simple elegance of her method.
