Hi,

Welcome Max, Really there's no difference. Home cinema systems can range from 2.1 through to 7.1 surround sound you would commonly find these in your local Comet or Curry's. All it means really is like Prezzy said 5 speakers plus bass. 2 front, 1 center, 2 rear plus a subwoofer.
Most Home Cinema systems also play dvd's or blu-rays and do the job for most people. Unless you are a real surround sound buff I'm sure a Samsung system will suit you fine.
Hi,
Thank you for your replies, I was looking at a Samsung HT-D5550 5.1 Home Cinema.
But the reason that I asked the question is that I noticed a member recommended Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2 receiver option.
But I suppose that is going to mean that I will also require a speaker set up as well, and the setting up may be too complicated for me.
Although if you steer me down that route as the best option, then I will give that a go.
If I cannot work it out how to set it up or do not understand the instructions, I can always hire in someone to do it.
But I would prefer to set it up myself.
Thanks for your help.

this looks a good set up,but you may be better off getting the same make as your tv so they will work together.
Hi,
I have a Panasonic TH-42PA30 it is not HD, but I would like a Home Cinema set up ready for when I do.
Is it important to have the same make, are not all make compatable?
Is this type of set up more suitable than the A/V receiver, that I mentioned?
Thanks
if its the same make, remotes work on both.not important but useful.system above is the complete all in one system good make, but just do more homework into picking your system etc watts, hdmi sockets and so on ,took me a while before picking mine ,i got same make as tv and the all in one system.
Hi Sav,
Thanks, I will take my time before I buy.
All suggestions welcome.
A key thing to consider is how many and what inputs you need? Eg what you are planning on plugging into it? Also a lot of the all in one systems can't decode dts from external sources only from the inbuilt DVD player. If you were planning on running a media player through one that could cause an issue. This is where a separate AV receiver comes into its own, get down to a richer sounds mate and check some gear out and get advice on what suits your requirements best.

I have a Samsung HT-TZ225 5.1 + wireless rear unit ... which is now a defunct model. What I really would like is the LG complete wireless system @ 1400 squid... anybody got any dosh they dont require.
How I see this.
Home Cinema
A fully upgradable system that you can throw what you like at it...Amp + Speakers + Blu-Ray + HTPC.
The heart of a Home Cinema is the AMP and as long as you have a good one, the sky's the limit.
My awesome setup = Denon 1910 with 3005 Kef speakers. Love it to death!!
Surround Sound System
The integrated gear you can get OOTB, where the 'Amp' resembles a Blu-Ray player with speaker outputs.
OR
With the exception of Onkyo, who sell great Amp's with great speakers and is my recommendation as a starter package. Although that would also be classed as a Home Cinema IMO.
this is what i am looking at:
ONKYO HT-S5405B

Can anyone recommend it or steer me on to something better for my dosh?!
If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

I made a mistake when purchasing a home cinema Samsung HT-TZ225... I should have got one the same make as my TV... e.g. LG use simplink to talk to each LG appliance. Samsung use their own.
Lesson learnt.
I have samsung components and they all dont work together as they should!!!

and these speakers..
Would certainly recommend
