Help want to upgrade my system drive, anyone recommend some easy to use software??

    hi

my system drive is old slow and small so want to upgrade to a bigger faster drive that i have.

i've read a few guides online, but there seems to be a shed load of software out there.

can anyone recommend software that is easy to use?

    thanks in advance

if you can live without the bigger drive i recommend a SSD. All you need is acrnos take an image and restore it. Probably best to do a fresh install though.

yes i would also say get an ssd for your system drive and use the old drive as a backup one.

upgrade your pc bios, set the bios to achi for the ssd and just leave the old drive set to ide, fresh install of windows and your good to go.

the speed diff i get is amazing when opening prgms and startup time is blistering...

    have fun.

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

To copy the old drive to the new one just use acronis - install it then create a rescue cd. As long as the target drive has enough space for your data it will resize the partitiions itself for you and sort it out.

If you get an ssd you must do a re-install. Windows configures itself differently if it detects an ssd during install...

I use drivexml it's free and does the job...

I've successfully cloned a mechanical hd to an ssd a few times - windows seemed to work fine, although I wouldn't be surprised if it could have run a touch quicker if installed from ssd from the start.

It'll work fine but trim won't be enabled so the disk's performance will gradually get worse and worse. It also disables the defrag schedule as fragmentation isn't an issue on ssd and moving the data around only shortens the life of the drive. It also disables super fetch as it's not required... And more stuff like that... Maybe indexing as well I think...

    Thanks to Mr.James
