PS3 YLOD reflow help.

many members im sure have done a reflow on there ps3's but after watching a least ten video's im unsure which to follow, if any one has success with a recent reflow and know of a good guide could you point me in the right direction please.

I think the gilky vids are supposed to be best but I had one machine which would work for a few weeks then die again so I insulated all plastic on the mobo, fluxes all the right areas and put it in my oven which made it last months but now it has failed again. If its worth it to you consider a reball, members on here provide the service.

thanks for replying, ive seen gilky's guide. but im sure it was dated 2009, could you explain a reball and how much it will cost pls.

A reball replaces the bga solder with leaded solder thus cures the flaw which causes the ylod. A reflow just heats the current bga helping to heal any dry or broken joints. Not sure on cost but I'm sure someone will reply in here, there are some other threads if you search for ylod.

As above, a reball is a more perminant fix by far. Constant heating & cooling cycles cause thermal stress on the BGA joints which cause them to crack, and as such YLoD. Reballing replaces the already thermally stress and prone to failure lead free solder with fresh leaded solder which is less prone to cracking & failure from thermal stress.

I have a YLOD too, I tried reflow and have changed the thermal paste and added copper shims but still YLOD, could you have a look for me please. Cant PM you says your inbox is too full :-(
