    Default What box to buy?

I've been out of the sat game for a few years, I used to have a DM500 connected to a motorised dish and got most sats 42e to 30w.

Now I hear things have changed a lot, no more 3pm kick offs unless you have a fooking great dish pointing at 7w. Well that's out of the question seeing as I am in a 3 floor flat. I also have read that cardsharing is on it's way out, is that the case?

My main objective is to fook off Sky, I'm sick of paying their extortionate fees every month. I'm sorted for football but want a sky replacement. So I'm after a dual tuner HD box with recording functions that offers extras if I choose to go down that route My current dish only points at 28.2e.

I'm looking at a Vu+ duo but is there any harm in buying a clone Vu+ box as there is around an £80 saving on an original? My DM500 was a clone and worked as well as an original although I remember certain firmware groups were releasing ticking time bombs that bricked your box on a certain date if it wasn't an original box. Are there firmwares like these for the Vu clone boxes I need to be aware of?

Anyone have any other suggestions for a box? Could anyone say if it's actually worth buying now or is the sat hobby dying off?

I got a clone VU+ solo for about £75 delivered from hong kong (and it was here in a few days dont know how)
    Aliexpress was my source ..

Does need the odd reboot but apart from that is fine imho

Better to get cheapo one for now because as you say CS is up in the air at the moment ;-)

    Thanks to macmilm

Amiko box's are poop pal I would get what Macmilm said for 75 quid you cant go wrong its 15 quid more than f5s its worth paying the xtra £15 trust me . To me dm 500 is the best box ever made and still use mine. As for skyboxs openboxs I would stay away as they are shit full stop .

I Disagree Id rather spend £75 than spend £200 / £300 for it to be knocked of in a couple of months. Last year I would have agreed

fair point I guess - it is a risk indeed but better to get the best you can than go with inferior crap?

At least with a decent box you should be able to sell it on and recoup some money if it all goes tits up

    Thanks to prezzy

Well my objective is to fook sky off, if it goes tits up in a few months then I would happily use this as a FTA box. I want to also use it's other features like streaming to their android app. I don't have a TV in the bedroom and currently just use a tablet and plex/tvcatchup, I could use this and have the channels in better quality and also more selection of channels over tvcatchup.

    I found a solo2 on Alibaba for around £110
    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/99...Tuner_DVB.html

Do the Solo2's have images that are compatible with the clones?

Bobo is right though, I don't want to spend too much, I'm too tight

Then again your point is fair about recouping money I suppose its long as it is broad. I never knew you could get a solo 2 clone.

I had the legit one it was the best box I've ever owned only had it for 3 weeks then I moved home and had to sell it. I had tuner A set up using Usals and tuner B static on a sky mini dish. The speed and power of it was awesome.

I will happily snap up a legit box of someone when CS goes tits up.

At the moment I am trying to avoid sticking a dish up on my new place. But could be convinced.

I'm very new to the sattelite game, but having spent a couple of weeks with an F5, decided I wanted something better.

I can heartily recommend http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/...ilter_name=hd2 as a great alternative to the vu+ boxes, with the Vix image, and a great support forum too.

Clearly it's more money, but from an English supplier too.

I got an Ultimo a couple of years back as I figured it was going to be my new hobby and media box. I've it in a cabinet and it's acting as my TV box (sat and terrestrial), media player, CCTV hub and streamer. I'd be often be travelling and I would hook up to my box to watch TV or check the cameras or set up some recordings, for all that functionality I didn't mind paying for a "legit" box as the box is a vital piece of kit for me now and the warranty alone is worth it.

Actually, a better way to sum it up I guess would be, if you are just looking for a box to do 1 job (e.g. card sharing) then go for a cheap as chips option as it mightn't be able to do it's function for much longer anyway, but if you're looking for a box that does more then look to spend a bit more.
