    Help Endoscopy costs on NHS/BUPA?

A while back I posted about abdominal pain, and although it hasnt re-occurred since, I am looking into the possibility of having n endoscopy to make sure everything is ok - as I never really folllowed up when it first happened 2 years ago - just want to make sure nothing serious is going on. I had an endoscopy back then and it revealed stomach ulcers... and was advised no alcohol for 6 months.

Does anyone know how I would go about arranging for an endoscopy either on the NHS or privately? and what the costs may be? For private health care do I need to be referred from someone in the NHS? as no doubt my doctor would probably just tell me to stop being paranoid and send me on my way. I need to get this checked out asap.....

    cheers guys

go to your local GP tell about stomach pain they will give tablets which stop excess stomach acid, go back and say not working you will be referred to hospital within 12 weeks in Scotland for the camera into stomach I went with stomach pain thinking it was ulcers had the blood test to check it not the bacteria you get in stomach which is similar to pain you get from ulcers, all clear, camera down into stomach no ulcers had scan same day gallstone the size of a golf ball , symptoms stomach pain, wind, excess acid pain in chest, extreme pain after eating fatty meals weight loss and your poops being pale in colour

really should update my location, im not in scotland anymore, im in norwich. Ill give it a go though, it could just be excess acid. i mean its only happened twice in 2-3 years - the first time was the most serious though, as i ended up in a colombian hospital for 4 days where no one spoke a word of english - and all they did was starve me, fill me with drugs and shove a camera down my throat...

my shits are ok colour wise, not that i have a good rummage around in them but they are ok. its like someone was stabbing me in the stomach with a needle, really sharp intense pain for a few seconds, then gone, a few minutes later, back again - this would for on for 10-15 min spells - and would often wake me from sleep.

Going through something the same. Had the problem for 12 months.

I was referred first for a Ultrasound then had both scopes top and bottom within seven days of seeing my GP.

Found nothing but the pain continues so had a CT scan which still shows nothing.

That was a year ago. Just completed the blood in stools card tests and awaiting result then its the scopes again as the pain has got markable worse over the year.

i understand but there are other effects bud, the mind is powerful too.

many years ago i suffered burning pains in my stomach, it felt like hot water was surging in my lower stomach. it was uncomfortable and my mind was constantly on it. it would happen regardless of diet and situation. the stress of this literally caused me to sweat during meetings when the pain came, i could think of nothing else but bad stuff.

i hot google and the absolute worse things came up, worse case scenarios, etc.

i too eventually got an endoscopy and colonoscopy, both unpleasant. the drs found nothing and prescribed nothing.

eventually it went away and i suspect it was stress related. there was no other explanation as far as i am concerned.

back to what i said, the mind is powerful, and not letting go if you feel alright may be worse. getting gps so send you for tests could drag on for months or longer. so just a suggestion bud, maybe worth getting on with your life and being positive, and enjoying as opposed to worrying about what was bad, what could be etc.

whatever you decide, good luck mate.

    Thanks to Zippeyrude

good advice mate. i agree the mind can be a powerful thing, and i do worry about falling ill as i get older. albeit im still young and have a long life (hopefully) ahead of me, so i really shouldnt let things like this worry me. i might just put it on the backburner for the time being and focus on proposing to my girlfriend (in the next 4 weeks) - that is one thing im proper SHITTING myself about! haha
