I have an Acekard 2i and I am also on the firmware that was on super mario 3d. I have updated the firmware on the card and it works fine.

Have you looked to see if there is new f/w available for your card?

Wood is a compromise FW really, it saved about a million R4 owners from having to bin their cards but I wouldnt call it the best by far. The R4/clone cards are still pretty hopeless with the DSi and 3DS.

The Acekard may well still work in the newer 3DS but you HAVE to update it before you run any updates on the 3DS, once the 3DS gets an update that blocks your flashcard, you would have to put it into a DS lite, or an older DSi/3DS to update it, just like you did with the DSi.

According to acekard.com, the last update was

    Update Date:2011-12-07Firmware Update of AK2i for 3DS 3.0
Not sure if that means there are some 3DS that are newer than 3.0 that cant run the Acekard though.

I wouldn't say all R4/Clones are pretty hopeless with the DSi and 3DS. I've had 100's of the R4i-SDHC.com 3DS versions and never had a problem at all, they're decent quality compared to other clones. They're flashable so can be upgraded too if you update the DS FW, and they work on firmware 3.0.0-6.

If uve updated to the very latest firmware u are fucked for the moment!

New Firmware update DSi 1.44J blocks all current flashcarts, so please do not update your DSi or 3DS unless you Know your cart will works.

    NDS & DS Lite's are not affected by update's only DSi's & 3Ds.

No cart can play 3Ds games, you can only play Ds & DSi ROMs on a 3Ds.

Nibb, that warning is for DSi users, not 3DS. Ive looked at my 3DS and its on 3.0.0-6E, which I just tested with my acekard (not sure if its bang up to date) but it works fine.

The R4i/gold/3D/god knows what clones could well go the same way as the older R4s and support could dry up very quickly, the R4's are ok now, but when the original support dropped off, they became pretty useless and an official support team never resurfaced. It was thanks to the wood team that they're not all in the bin now. For me, I'd rather spend a bit more cash (as in...less than 5 quid) and have a card which has the best official and unofficial support out there.

V4 of the 3DS fw is out now(4.0.0-7) and the current Acekard firmware is working fine on it.

I did read something last week that the crown card is about 77% complete at the moment

    Could be complete bollocks though

The crown card was found to be bullshit from what I read. A working card is probably still a long way off.
