Broken iPhone 4

As per the title really, my Mrs has an iphone 4 with a broken the charging connector, anyone have any idea how to fix this or somewhere reasonable and trustworthy I can get it repaired by?

It also has a crack in the glass on the back but she's not bothered about that unless it causes a problem with the repair?

Any advice welcome

Not too difficult to DIY if you've got a really small philips screw driver, one of these and a Youtube video showing how to take it apart...



If you really want to get in her good books, get one of these at the same time and you'd have earned yourself some beer tokens and a free pass.
Approximately £10 and jobs a goodun.

As with all iPhone 4 repairs take your time and note where everything goes. This is a pretty straightforward repair, I get my parts from mobileman as some eBay kit is cheap Chinese knock offs and might not last.

Cheers for that, ive ordered the parts of ebay already! fingers crossed there ok, I think I should be ok doing this, im not an apple fan boy so have never taken one apart but remembered reading the iphone 3 was a ball ache so assumed this would be to, nice to see them use screws for once!!!!

Also check if it uses a Philips screw or pentolobe screw. The screen is the bastard to repair but dock assembly doesn't require many parts to be removed to replace it.

Pentolobes on mine, and bugger are they small!

well don't even know what a Pentolobe is but they look like a Philips to me! :-)

I've just put the dock in which was much easier than I expected, but its still not charging, the old dock has the red paper indicating water damage and also the 2 white papers (round dots on the left as you look at it, one covers a screw) are red underneath as well, so im assuming that its got wet at some point?

the phone came off her ex husband and he gave her so much grief for getting her iphone 3 wet once im now wondering if he got this wet and didn't want to own up!

anyway, does anyone have any ideas or is there anything I can do with a multimeter to test what's broken?? or is it off to a shop with it

if all three are triggered its had a good dunking !! first check with another battery to save you taking the board out, if that doesnt work then board out and check for liquid damage to main board, remove all covers ver very carefully or send in and i can take alook. check current battery with multimeter would rule out that its not faulty

will stick a meter across the battery but not sure that will prove much as its been off for a few months I think so battery might be dead to the world, might see if I can talk someone into letting me swap batteries, doubtful but you never know!

Leave battery on charge for overnight might kick it back into life after checking no heavy damage to main board

Is there any way you could take a look at this for me if I send it down? Can't get anyone to let me try a battery and don't want to bust it trying to get it all apart! To many small bits for my liking :-)

Phone sorted and winging its way back the same day mobileman got it!
